Drag and Drop Upload - Today's Browser Tip (Download Squad)
Jan 29th 2006 6:04PM The way upload works in browser is clunky. It has been the same clunky system for a long long time. Fortunately there are some solutions out there that don't require a Firefox plug in, and work on all browsers. We have a drag-and-drop upload solution which works as a Java applet, which you can try out at: http://chiralsoftware.net/drag-and-drop-file-upload.html. It lets you drag an entire folder of files onto the web browser and have them all uploaded. A company called Rad Inc also makes a similar product. So there are options out there to fix this. The future of web services is going to be a lot more web application type services which may use JavaScript or Java applets to blur the distinction between a web site and a desktop application. This is a good thing.
