Users report Firmware 3.0 causing Uncharted freezes (Joystiq)

Sep 3rd 2009 8:05AM Sorry to double-post (I was in a hurry). In my opinion, the firmware update corrupts the game data or something, because when you run the "restore file system" utility, it says the disk is corrupted and it must repair the disk. After doing this, I had no problem reinstalling the game and playing it. Just my two-cents (and I honestly don't really know what I'm talking about).

Sep 3rd 2009 7:54AM Something else that seemed to fix the problem for me (I've only plated for about two hours after the fix so not sure if it's truly a fix):

1. delete the Uncharted game data (not the game save data)
2. Run the "Restore File System" utility -- directions are here: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?message.uid=39144801
3. Insert the game and you should be able to play from one of your old save points.

So far it has worked for me.

I also did the following, which honestly, I don't think does anything, but some people recommended:
1. Choose the "classic" theme (the one without the "sparkles")
2. In system settings, set "Notification Messages" to "Do Not Display"
3. In system settings, set "Display [What's New] to "off"

Also, if this does not work, someone else suggested that the problem may be with the auto-save feature, so:

When ever you go to start a new game or load a specific chapter and it asks you to select a save file to overwrite or to create... DON"T... Cancel that selection and you'll be prompted by Uncharted that the game will continue, but it won't have the "AUTOSAVE" function enabled. Meaning you have to save it manually for the rest of the game. So before you turn off your PS3, save your game.

Best of luck.

Sep 2nd 2009 12:46PM Uncharted definitely freezes for me. Can't get past the loading screen. I have to power cycle the PS3. Glad you're still able to play .. hope you don't have the same luck I've had.

Waiting for the patch ...

Users report Firmware 3.0 causing Uncharted freezes (Joystiq)

Sep 2nd 2009 11:04AM I just bought a PS3, and just bought Uncharted and was enjoying it immensely. Then decided I should be a good citizen and download Firmware 3.0. Uncharted won't even boot up for me. During the load screen with the spinning "loading" medal, it freezes and locks up the PS3 ... 100 percent of the time. I hope they get this fixed soon, but I'm not optimistic. Wish I could revert back to an earlier Firmware at least, but guess we can't.

Not impressed with Sony so far. I was loving the game too =(
