Aug 26th 2009 9:56AM Will we finally have the answer to the question "how many roads must a man walk down"?
Nokia, cheesiness featured in new Star Trek movie (Engadget)
May 10th 2009 8:44PM The Nokia ringtone raised a laugh in the cinema where I saw it. I don't have a problem with the phone - the car is vintage, who's saying the Nokia in the dash isn't? I don't see anyone complaining about the Corvette. Not to mention the Aptera.

Apr 24th 2009 7:42AM Can't the Belgians just leave the kids alone?

Microsoft files patent lawsuit against TomTom over Linux-based GPS systems (Engadget)
Feb 26th 2009 9:47AM It is my understanding that Linux was using long filenames years before DOS/Windows. I'm not a complete MS hater, they have their place, particularly in the business market, but this stinks of hypocrisy.
European versions of Windows to include multiple web browsers? (Download Squad)
Feb 24th 2009 8:58PM This was originally not about Microsoft bundling IE, or any of its other software. Its the level of integration with the OS that is the problem. notepad and media player are not fundamentally part of the OS and can be uninstalled if you so desire, IE has its roots entwined deep inside Windows. Still, requiring them to distribute competitors software is deeply unfair. That said, IE is a shoddy browser and it will take years to undo the damage older versions have done to the web - pages bodged and tweaked to get them to display properly, because standards compliant pages got mauled by IE.
Shelby's amazing Aero EV: 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds, 10 minute recharge (Engadget)
Jan 27th 2009 11:13AM This sort of technology is expensive in any car, making it a supercar justifies the cost. No-one will pay $200,000 for a run-of-the mill family car, whereas that sort of pricing is acceptable for a supercar. It also demonstrates that electric cars are not necessarily the glorified golf buggies of the public perception, and buys a slice of eco-credibility for manufacturers who otherwise make fuel hogs.
To atddress your other point, coal fired power stations are more efficient than ICEs, and tend to be located out of town, where pollution causes the most problems. Also in the future, the trend will be toward cleaner sources such as nuclear and renewables, don't judge the future by the technology and standards of today.
SEAT unveils new Twin Drive Leon prototype hybrid (Autoblog)
Jan 25th 2009 9:32AM Is this the 'red I' engine? The 1.9TDI on its own is no slouch, if the electric motor motor can be used in tandem for a power boost a la Prius, this could be quite a sleeper!
Sapient's touchscreen Coke machine brings pop into the 21st century (Engadget)

Not true, we call carbonated drinks 'pop' here in the UK, at least in my part.
