Clausen Injury Gave Sharpley Job (Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog)
Oct 18th 2007 4:23PM Well, Weis isn't going to comment on the specifics of any injured player, but you made it sound like he was trying to hide the injury from "the Domer Nation and the press" which I don't believe is true. He said Clausen was banged up, but that that wasn't the full reason Sharpley was playing. Not everything Weis does is some kind of intricate conspiracy.
Clausen Injury Gave Sharpley Job (Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog)
Oct 18th 2007 12:49PM Great reporting. You would have had to read all the way to the first question of Tuesday's press conference (the one where Weis announced Sharpley at QB) to see that Clausen's injury WAS part of the reason Weis said Sharpley would play.
Q. The obvious question is the quarterback situation. What played into that or what led to the decision?
COACH WEIS: Just like I said the other day when we were talking, I said that I was going to talk to the medical people and talk to the coaching staff about where we were. I think there's a lot of people with bumps and bruises. That's not the sole reason why we're doing this. But I think Evan this week gives us the best chance of winning. And it's the exact same thing I told both quarterbacks, just so you know. I met with them yesterday and I told them exactly what I just said to you.

Notre Dame: Nevermind About That Whole Pettiness Bit (Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog)
Sep 21st 2007 8:35AM You're obviously overlooking the final line, the important one. Notre Dame selects students who they believe in and they will not make it easy for them to screw up their lives. If you start to fail out they will get you help. Not just a tutor for the class you did bad at, but whatever resources you might need. Tutors, counselors, priests who's life's mission is to help college students find their place in life. When someone is seen to be making a bad decision they understand that it's their choice to make, but they sure as hell are going to do whatever they can to help that student make smart, informed decisions and not throw away a valued education. This is true of not only athletes at Notre Dame, but everyone who's ever been accepted there. It's hard to understand unless you've been a part of it, but there is more to Notre Dame then just trading your athletic skill or money for a degree, there's responsibility.
