Missing Mac apps we hoped we'd see (

Jan 6th 2011 4:14PM Final Cut Studio will probably never be in the App Store as it's on at least 7 DVDs. That's a fun install. Reminds me of installing Office 15 years ago from a stack of 20 3.5" floppies.

Final Cut Express might make it, though.

PhotoFast offers MacBook Air upgrade (

Oct 27th 2010 2:30PM Apple charges $29 for the pentalobe screwdriver to get the bottom case off, which is also needed to remove the battery from the 15" & 17" MBPros. They charge $32 for the tri-lobe screwdriver that's necessary to remove the battery in all 11" & 13" MacBooks. And they're not even Apple-branded tools.

I've found the tri-lobes other places for much cheaper, but good luck getting your hands on a pentalobe. To buy a pentalobe from a reputable dealer you basically have to provide proof from the OEM that you're authorized to use one. That said, if you're careful you can use a very small (1/16) flat-blade screwdriver for both styles of the aforementioned screws.

Sep 1st 2010 2:42PM Calm down. 720p is "true HD" and is often referred to as Standard HD. Full HD, on the other hand, is 1080i/1080p.

May 6th 2010 10:34AM An iPad would be a godsend for repairs and tech support visits on campus. I could store all of my Apple hardware manuals on it and have quick and easy access to e-mail and our web-based call tracking system.

International iPad release pushed back to "late May," pre-orders start May 10 (

Apr 14th 2010 8:58PM For personal orders yes, but the college I work for isn't going to let me out of work for a few hours to stand in line when I can place an order online. Plus, everything has to be paid with a purchase order and since we're a non-profit institution we're tax-exempt.

I agree that it sucks when something you want is delayed. And in hindsight I should've left out the "whiners" comment. My apologies. Apple has been "processing" my order for a month now and I can't get any more info out of anyone at Apple.

Apr 14th 2010 12:02PM @Harlequin:

Just make sure you make a better app. Being first does not equate to better. Apple didn't invent the mp3 player, but they made the best one. Apple didn't invent the smartphone, but they made one of the best (the best in my opinion). Apple didn't invent the tablet computer, but it seems that they've made the most successful one to date. Pick apart your competitors' products and do it better.

Apr 14th 2010 10:18AM Get in line, whiners. I placed an order back on March 19 for two iPads on behalf of my college and I still can't even get an expected ship date. Our Apple rep is "looking into it."

Mar 30th 2010 1:11PM I'm surprised at all the hate for the formatting palette. I've always found it very useful.
