There is also GoToCamera http://www.gotocamera.com that are designed to use any web camera even from old phones and netbooks and works with both Mac and PC, plus it is a lot cheaper than this.

Nov 18th 2008 6:55PM I just tried the iPhone app. It had the location in my back yard about. But I was testing it outside. The GPS signal in your iPhone only works outdoors...if that is not available it reads off of cell towers which is probably why it is so off on your phone, you are sitting inside. I had the same problem with Google Maps on my iPhone until I finally figured it out. The Mac solution appears to work very differently, the SDK and hardware for an iPhone vs. a Mac are very different, comparing Apples and Oranges.

The company originally started with a patent-pending solution for iPods, digital cameras, MP3 players, Sony PSPs and other gadgets. Their solution became quite popular and was recently featured on Dateline NBCs exclusive on iPod theft "To Catch An iJacker" as well as several popular technology news sites.

More recently the company launched new software targeting the mobile phone market. If a phone is stolen, the software will alert the owner with any new phone numbers the phone is assigned along with other forensic information that will allow law enforcement to recovery the device. GadgetTrak also launched new software for laptops and Mac computers that will capture video of the thief along with other forensic data to locate the system.

Aug 2nd 2007 4:53PM It is interesting how they stated there was no existing technology. There has actually been a company with technology that tracks stolen iPods for quite a while. They are called GadgetTrak (www.gadgettheft.com), they were mentioned just briefly in the story, but they have actually recovered stolen iPods and other devices.
