In case you missed 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' last night (Engadget)

Mar 10th 2009 12:39PM Nice segment Josh. Well done!

VIA Nano and Intel's Atom benchmarked head-to-head (Engadget)

Jul 29th 2008 3:18PM "so hopefully we'll be seeing machines like HP's Mini-Note make the jump relatively soon."

I don't want to see that at all. The Nano's TDP maxes out at 25W, the current C7-M inside it hits 8W and the Intel Atom is 2.6W. Putting a Nano in the HP Mini-note (all things being equal) would drop the useful run-time to maybe 90 minutes on the 3-cell battery and 3 hours on the 6-cell battery. This CPU isn't meant for netbooks...

Toshiba working on a netbook / UMPC that's actually interesting (Engadget)

Jul 24th 2008 2:10PM I don't know what the innards were in January, but we saw this prototype at CES back in January. It ran Vista back then and they also had a custom Linux version too. It was a MAJOR fingerprint magnet that Toshiba said was likely to be a concept only.

AT&T's free iPhone WiFi is (update: was) live at last (Engadget)

Jul 18th 2008 11:25AM Per AT&T, they posted the web page in error... again.

I'm not at a Starbucks, so I can't verify, but this is just silly.

VUDU Wireless Kit: it adds WiFi to your VUDU (Engadget)

Jun 5th 2008 2:46PM "will it function reliably with HD content?"

Vudu boxes already work reliably with HD content wirelessly, so why would this be any different? Vudu indicates you need around 4 Mbps bandwidth to download and watch HD content without stutters. Check the Engadget & EngadgetHD archives for the testing we did to stream OTA HD via WiFi back in 2005. That required around 19 MBps and generally was usable. 802.11g should be generally be more than adequate to stream Vudu HD if your pipe is fast enough to pull it down in the first place. If not, Vudu will buffer it like it does today.

Long story short: I don't understand why the question is even being asked. ;)

Opera browser gets itself in Gear(s) (Download Squad)

May 31st 2008 11:13AM Drew, I think you meant "Opera Mobile", not "Opera Mini". Opera Mobile 9.5 for WinMo, S60 devices will support Gears when the browser arrives in the near future. And it's a SWEET browsing experience... we've been playing with it for a good month now. Might even be as good as (if not better) than Safari on the iPhone, depending on the device you're using.

AT&T offering free WiFi to Laptop Connect and smartphone users? (Engadget)

May 21st 2008 11:24AM After the memo was leaked, the official press release hit yesterday morning: http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=4800&cdvn=news&newsarticleid=25723

GPS-equipped walkers promise to keep elderly patients on track (Engadget)

Feb 28th 2008 7:39PM Nice use for a Fujitsu Stylistic slate Tablet PC too. That device alone makes the walker worth over two-grand.

Vista SP1 doesn't significantly boost performance, slows down certain tasks (Engadget)

Feb 13th 2008 8:01PM I can't say I've tested particular functions like USB read/writes, but I did run PCMark Vantage on Vista & Vista SP1 with a UMPC. Found nearly a 10% increase in the benchmark score: http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkontherun/2008/01/vista-sp1-perfo.html
