Another Meghan McCain Story (Politics Daily)

Mar 24th 2009 1:57PM She might not have a solid position yet on many/any issues, but her portion of the she said/she said conversation between her and the GOP girlies, does sound more mature and well-planned.

The GOPers sound much worse than my 7-year old... Don't we expect more from people who have the spotlight? If not, that is really telling...

For the record, I don't like Coulter's attitude or comments. I find her ignorant on many issues, rude on others, and contrary to what I want in a free country. Of course, there is no explaining taste...

Mar 19th 2009 11:40AM I am not sure how the competition is any different that simply offering cash to the "general public" to disclose exploits. You might get more exploits shown...

Either way, I think that if calling a company and saying "I know of an exploit, and I am going to release it to the general public unless you pay me 5 quid" is a crime, then who, exactly, this type of "reward" does not encourage anyone to simply disclose (when they find it) an exploit.

Oh wait... We wouldn't want to encourage appropriate disclosure anyway... What was I thinking?

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic with North American 3G coming to flagship stores soon, probably tomorrow (Engadget Mobile)

Feb 25th 2009 7:42AM To each their own...

Any of the above-mentioned phones would work well and provide most people with what they are looking for in a mobile phone... If not, K-9 is still looking for Bugs...

5800, N97, OmniaHD, Pre. Those are the 4 on my short list right now. As for being "subsidized," I really don't care... Of course, your mileage and choice may differ.

Win an AT&T Fuze from HTC and Engadget Mobile! (Engadget Mobile)

Dec 18th 2008 2:07PM Yeah... I'd love one. Consider this ... random :)

MacBook Pro users getting bitten by HDCP (TUAW.com)

Nov 20th 2008 9:07AM Remember, you are not buying the song. You are "buying" a license that lets you "enjoy" the content (song, movie, other stuff) that you select. There are terms in that license (has anyone read them?), and you are being held to those requirements. Just as iTunes limits you to the number of computers (that is a big restriction...), why do you now complain because another right is taken away? You didn't complain the first time, and you continue to support the practice.

Want change? Don't support these firms with your purchases. Go back to buying CDs and DVDs and ripping them to your heart's content.
You won't buy stuff with DRM but you'll buy DVDs, which I presume you mean commercial Hollywood movies, which, yep, have DRM.
Ah...that isn't the point... I buy the movie to acquire a license. Although the license may limit what and how I do things to the "content" on the media I "bought," I can then rip the movie (removing its DRM) as I see fit (here comes the good part) knowing that no jury is going to convict me of violating the DMCA when I have purchased the movie.

In essence, Ty has it right. The RIAA and the MPAA have made it "illegal" to copy "purchased' content to enjoy it as you see fit because they have altered "Fair Use."

However, I'd love to see the reaction to the RIAA or the MPAA when they charge/sue someone who has purchased the content but has "ripped" it to enjoy as they see fit...

"You mean you are suing this guy for ripping the content to his iPhone to watch it when he has PURCHASED the content?

Right...

MMS-capabilities coming soon to a Swedish iPhone? (Engadget)

Nov 18th 2008 11:10PM Of course, the problem with this is that making me get MMS from a third party is like asking me to go to a third party for an app that will let me create a directory in an operating system because the creator didn't think I needed directories when every other OS anyone else has created has that ability... Which phone OS doesn't allow MMS? Is there one?

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic now listed at €429 for Spain, up from €279 (Engadget)

Nov 14th 2008 8:21PM Perhaps the web-master is dyslexic? 249 Euro? :D Of course, that is unlocked and unsubsidized. My guess is it will be 249 or 279 Euro when subsidized...

Google experiences downtime, so does faith in cloud computing (Download Squad)

Nov 13th 2008 8:47AM I have blogged about this, and I call these services "thin-client" services. If your host/source goes down, you are simply out of luck. Remember the cable cut in Taiwan? Imagine if you had all of your business data on one of these sites and you were unable to "work" with that data for a day...or more.

I like having my own server in my own office--either I can fix an issue or I can have IT do it. I just don't get network computing--web browsing is one thing, but, like the web-app only iPhone, those devices that require an internet connection to be functional don't make much sense to me.

Likely it will have no effect, but what hapens when MS only offers Word on-line or when some other firm makes you store your property/information on their servers... Thin is out--this is why...

Latest spy shots show AT&T Fuze defaced with carrier's logo (Engadget Mobile)

The AT&T software is under a single tab on the touch-flo interface. It has been shown that you can "fix" this, but at least it is under one tab...
