Shocker: Touchscreen smudge may give away your Android password pattern (Engadget)
Aug 16th 2010 3:47AM @xsacha the whole point of that unlock mechanism is that you can use a pattern and not really have to remember numbers. If you are going to randomize the digits then there is no point drawing a pattern in the first place - might as well just have a regular PIN entry screen.
It *is* pretty easy to figure out the smudge patterns though. I did it on a colleague's phone recently who didn't believe it was possible. It took 2 guesses.
Ce-Oh no he didn't!: Larry Ellison likens HP board to 'idiots' at Apple (Engadget)
Aug 10th 2010 5:12AM Something really smells bad about this whole situation. Contractor makes a sexual harassment claim, investigation follows but nothing that would violate the company's harassment policy is found. Meanwhile Hurd and contractor settle privately. Already this is getting fishy. Meanwhile the board takes this opportunity to get rid of Hurd for who knows what motives. After all this the contractor claims "I never meant for this to happen". Joke of the century. Think twice before you make allegations like this. Congrats, now you've ruined the guy's career, reputation, life, and possibly family.

Use Wallsaver to embed a screensaver on your Mac's desktop (Download Squad)
Jul 28th 2010 9:38AM I don't really understand the whole wallpaper thing - never have. When do you actually see your wallpaper? I see mine for about 10 seconds after a reboot which occurs probably once a month or so. Aside from that I generally just leave all my usual apps open and then switch between them. If I have a terminal window open like in the screenshot above, it is sitting on top of a stack of other apps/browsers. I just end up setting my wallpaper to straight black or gray because there is no point putting something pretty up there when I will never see it.

Jul 7th 2010 4:34AM @simbr Well considering people referred to the NES in its time as "Nintendo" as in "Let's go over to your house and play Nintendo"... how old are you again?
If I couldn't use a Mac (TUAW.com)
Jun 29th 2010 11:43AM Such melodrama. Windows 7 is actually very good so if I couldn't use a Mac I'd use a Win 7 based laptop from any of the higher quality manuf out there (read: not Dell) and I would be perfectly happy doing so.

Google: jabs at Apple 'in a spirit of good fun' in fight for developers (video) (Engadget)
May 27th 2010 5:42AM @kutt Ya they should have announced an IE App Store because that would have made COMPLETE sense.
I don't think anyone has ever taken issue with Apple having an app store for iDevices. That's just common sense. What a lot of people take issue with is the approval process you have to go through to get your app into the app store as well as the restrictions surrounding how you can build your app/what tools you are allowed to use. Android has neither of these restrictions thus it is more open. Get it?

May 27th 2010 5:36AM @jubjub Are you joking? Do you know anything about Android at all?
