Windows 7 Beta automatic shutdowns begin today, RC users safe until March 1st (Engadget)

Jul 1st 2009 1:18PM No automatic shutdowns in preBeta version))) (not activated - so annoying reminders on startup...)

Apple quietly updates $999 white MacBook with unibody specs (Engadget)

Jan 21st 2009 5:55AM oh, sorry. Of course I meaned S-VIdeo, not D-Video =)

Jan 21st 2009 5:54AM Also

Height change - 1.08 to 0.95
Wieight change - new MacBook is half pound lighter!
Mini DisplayPort instead of Mini DVI => No more composite or D-vidio output, put Dual Link DVI is now possible

Windows 7 install roundup (Engadget)

Jan 20th 2009 5:37PM System: Dell D800
1.7 Pentium M
1Gb RAM (PC4200)
NVIDIA GeForce Ti4200
Windows FLP (Fundamentals for legacy PCs, a microsoft cropped version of XP for corporate users)

Windows 7 version - build 6801.

Clean install on new 20Gb partition.

No Aero working of course, but really faster boot time then on Windows XP, Vista or FLP. (Already working almosr 3 months with Windows 7 as my main OS)

Longest battery life ever (compared to other microsoft OSs, and Ubuntu, and OpenSUSE)

Cons - shutdown time is much, really much longer that I ever experienced.
Had some driver issues, but installing vista drivers in vista compatiblity mode resolved the problem.
Experienced some MS Office crashes on close.

System: Acer Aspire One A110Bw (bought for $180, current price about $200-220 in Russia)
1.6 Atom
1.5Gb RAM(DDR2 PC5400)

Windows 7 version - cropped build 6985 (to fit on 8Gb SSD).

Clean install from external DVD drive on 8Gb SSD (it is really slow in Acer, install process was about 4 to 5 hours).

Full Aero support. Working fast =) No crashes experienced.

Raid 0 on two 16Gb SD cards works fine, but I still not managed to make it a new install place for Win7.

Longer battery life then with Linpus, that was installed on default. Really love it for using on the go)
Driver issues resolved as was described above.

Much faster boot and returning from sleep or hibernate then on Dell D800, but much longer shutdown or restart time.

Sep 21st 2008 10:44AM Just an oversized PDA with Linux, not an UMPC.

and there is no more Intel XScale, they are Marvell XScale...

Athlon 64 2000+ at 8-watts outperforms, draws less energy than Atom (Engadget)

Aug 17th 2008 9:37AM 1. It is a DESKTOP version of Atom. Not the same which is used in MIDs and netbooks.

2.It's because of HT. Atom benefits from it in multitasking - and looses in single threaded tests, like all of the examples, except of antivirus and winrar tests (which both has some optimization for multithreading...)

Olympus EVOLT E-520 DSLR gets purchased, sample shots abound (Engadget)

Jun 19th 2008 1:56PM Looks like a fake... IMHO. Olympus's cameras are well known for outstanding quality.

Or... Is he an idiot?... um... don't know how to speak it more politely... a man with a different type of thinking?)

Dell's XPS One (PRODUCT) RED is a charitable rip off (Engadget)

Jan 25th 2008 3:45AM That's all because of discount "200$ off" for basic XPS One, but old price for the same base hardware included in XPS One RED package)
