Draw: an open-source online drawing program (Download Squad)
Nov 6th 2006 2:36PM Naw, this wont cut it. Flash will do a much better job of this, ajax is not a good resource for this. Only reason why you want to use something like ajax and server-side scripting is so that search engines can crawl the content. In the case of a drawing program, there is no content to crawl, except maybe metadata. Flash is the create choice for creating online drawing applications.
The great reinstall: Worth it or not? (Download Squad)
Nov 2nd 2006 6:21PM This is an easy one. Ubuntu. Period. With Vista's restrictions, I wouldnt bother ever going Window's again. Besides, we can all see where the world of applications is going, off the desktop and onto the browser. Wordprocessing, spreadsheets, image manipulation, coding (but no compiling, afaik), can all be done online. To be honest, thats good enough for me.
The only thing I would say is still a positive for Window's environment is Photoshop. It simply works the best on a Window's PC.
Ubuntu (and family, Kubuntu, Xubuntu), is giving hope to the linux community, I firmly believe, Ubuntu is "The One", it took the blue pill. Sorry for the Matrix metaphor.
As for migrating or fresh install, I would definitely go fresh install, just as long as you back up your important files.(duh) Fresh install allows you to do partitions and reformats with ease. Sometimes fresh installs are faster. Ive done upgrades that take as long as 2 hours, probably from fragmenting, and I have had fresh installs take as little as 40 minutes for Windows, and 15 for Ubuntu. (without apget universe on everything)
Utube.com sues YouTube.com (Download Squad)

I completely agree, if I were 'the' Google, I wouldnt think twice about obtaining utube.com. I mean how much could it cost to rebrand a relatively local company, 2 million, 4 million? Or better yet, why not get into the tubing business as well, start expanding out, maybe get into plumbing, then merge into the real estate business as well. I can see it now, Google Homes. Oh lord, when will it ever end !
100 million web sites - Netcraft confirms it (Download Squad)

Any standard 'co-lo' would have many more servers than that. That image demonstrates a fraction of what most 'server farms' hold.

Call for Bloggers: Download Squad wants you! (Download Squad)
Nov 1st 2006 8:03PM Interesting idea.... however, flawed. If we, the blogger, are truly that motivated to write engaging material on a consistant basis, why wouldnt we just start our own blog, in which we can reap the benefits of ad revenue. Isnt what youre asking for, a long form way of saying, "We are cheap, and slightly greedy....We want good bloggers to post on our site, so we can take in the benefits of those postings."
Maybe I'm way off, I hope I am, I like to think positive of people, but it just seems a little sleezy to me. My apologies if I have mistaken what you are asking for.

Comedy Central yanks clips from YouTube (Download Squad)
Oct 28th 2006 6:08PM Comedy Central absolutely has the right to do what they want with their content. And I do not see anything wrong with them forcing Youtube to remove the content, or pay royalties for use of owned content.
If Comedy Central's clips played an important role in youtube's popularity is all the more reason for Comedy Central to get a piece of the pie, so to speak.
Would you like it if you spend your time and money to develop some cool "thing" (place material item here), and then I use the "thing" to make money, and give no royalty back to you? Your answer is a definite, no. Well guess what, that is exactly how Comedy Central is feeling.
There is going to be a strong trend of all content on that site that is copyrighted, to be removed. If you look at the fine print of youtube's recent corporate activity, you will find that they struck deals with BMI to essentially allow BMI to remove unauthorized content, and does not say that youtube explicitely has the right to show BMI content.
So if you are looking for professional content, Im not sure youtube is the best option. You might want to try your hand with http://www.gotuit.com or http://video.google.com. Both are reliable professional content providers.
Mike Spurlock, you need to get out more man. The social slandering of the early Bush years no longer works, try again.
