"Apple Store 2.0" event said to be international, include a complete store makeover [Updated] (TUAW.com)

May 18th 2011 1:34PM I'm one of the few people who really dislikes the way the current Apple Store model works I guess - going in and wanting to just buy something doesn't seem to work, you need to track down the employee that will get you in touch with someone who can actually sell you something, no clear checkout line, etc.

Hate it.

Tennessee school requires iPads of all 4th-12th grade students (TUAW.com)

Jan 21st 2011 2:40PM Wow - what a stunningly horrifying plan - force people who possibly can't afford it to buy a $500 luxury item. Or overcharge them for it.

TUAW Retro Giveaway Part 1: Newtonian artifacts and the web in '96 (TUAW.com)

Apr 1st 2009 10:14PM A friend bought a Newton when they first came out - one of the applications he had was the Star Trek Tricorder.

This was such an awesome piece of useless software that it inspired me to create one using Visual Basic 2.0 for Windows 3.1 - I had been trying to think of a project to teach myself a little bit of programming at the time and this was perfect.

A friend brought over his modem and we hit the internet (Archie! FTP!) looking for Star Trek WAV files. I even uploaded the finished app to a few local BBSes.

Good times.

ZDNet: 'iPhone running Windows XP'? Fail (TUAW.com)

Jun 19th 2008 12:20AM JG - you're partially right, but the demo is showing an ICA Client connecting to XenDesktop which _is_ a virtualized machine just for the user. XenApp is the new name for Presentation Server which is the applicatoin delivery.

Mar 20th 2007 6:59PM but but there ain't no piggly wigglys _in_ Atlanta....

Apple releases Mac OS X 10.4.9 update for Intel and PowerPC Macs (TUAW.com)

Mar 13th 2007 9:32PM White screen after reboot for me as well on my 20" iMac Core Duo - almost afraid to run it on my powerbook and mac mini now.

I had to do the SMC reset (remove power for 15+ seconds) to get it to come up properly.

Buy Parallels now and get one year free updates (TUAW.com)

Dec 13th 2006 8:25PM Software updates to a product are not the same as buying an entirely new product.

2 years after buying Tiger, I am still receiving free updates.

3 years after buying VMWare for Windows, I am still receiving free updates.

Telling people they have to pay to update BETA software to a non buggy release is poor business.

Buy Parallels now and get one year free updates (TUAW.com)

Dec 13th 2006 5:40PM So anyone who thought they'd encourage Mac software by buying at Office Depot (such as myself) gets screwed.

Nice work Parallels, I think I'll be looking at a different company's product rather than upgrading.

How To: keep your iTunes library on an external hard drive (TUAW.com)

Sep 19th 2006 9:41AM one big Gotcha I run into with this setup (I use an external FW drive) is that iTunes crashes if I try to copy a large amount of data at once to my iPod - I've got 40gig of music on my iPod and drive, had to copy it over about 200 songs at a time to avoid crashing (17" iMac, 60gig video iPod, iTunes 5 and 6 at least, haven't tried 7 with more than 200 songs yet)

FlickrExport 1.3.4 (TUAW.com)

Apr 28th 2006 8:18PM Is anyone else seeing an EXE file with a random name get downloaded to the desktop when clicking on the download link for Flickr export? I tried 4 times, each time as soon as I clicked the link, a 628kb EXE file was placed on my desktop - when the download finished or if I canceled the download, the EXE file disappeared.

I'm using Firefox on 10.4 - the exe file shows up when FF prompts me on what to do with the DMG file.
