Macworld 2007 Keynote Liveblog (TUAW.com)
Jan 9th 2007 1:04PM No Verizon James, SIM only (and there is a cingular logo on the top of it). Maybe one day (but probably not, Steve doesn't seem to like CDMA).
Verizon gives in, allows DUN from cellphones (Engadget)
Feb 3rd 2006 11:36AM The V (pictured) comes with Bluetooth DUN already enabled. You don't have to go in and turn it on, only specify how to dial into Verizon's data provider. You do that with #777, just make sure you're in a 1x only area or force it into 1x because otherwise it tries to connect with ev-do and unless you have ev-do service (ie VCast or Broadband access) it won't work. This is really easy on a Powerbook.
Also, if you don't mind just using 1x and are worried about contract violations, buy mobile web 2.0 for $5 a month (unlimited) and you can dial in to your heart's content.
TUAW Tip: Put your apps wherever you want (TUAW.com)
Jan 27th 2006 11:41AM I usually don't bother too much with the organization since I use Quicksilver, though I do follow the practice of putting 3rd party apps into an 'Applications' folder in my home folder. Quicksilver makes everything so easy! Big apps that I have the installer for (i.e. photoshop) I put in the regular Applications folder so other users on the computer can use it (and I can always re-install from cd).
Mockup box art (Joystiq)
Jan 16th 2006 11:45AM I don't know therpham, maybe your photoshop skills are out of this world, but what I saw was fairly good (not great) photoshop box art. Made by fans, for fans, about video games. Sounds perfect for joystiq!
Hack your 4GB iPod nano to 8GB? (Engadget)
Jan 13th 2006 10:23AM natch means naturally.
Apple's Intel iMac (Engadget)
Jan 10th 2006 4:13PM PS - AOL/WINC, if you don't get your act together with these stupid comments problem, I'll stop visiting your sites. It is so annoying to have to go back like 12 times just to get your comments posted (and see them disappear sometimes too).
Engadget et al, I still love you.
Apple's Intel iMac (Engadget)
Jan 10th 2006 4:11PM "As far as the second question, I know very little about linux. I do imagine though that the intel switch will allow a lot more flavors of linux to run on the Mac."
The Beowulf cluster reference was a joke. See http://www.ubergeek.tv/article.php?pid=54
BTW does anyone else wonder why Intel's more advanced processor is called the Core Solo while the mobile is the Core Duo (I'm sure it refers to the number of cores, but why make it seem like the Solo is a lesser machine?)
Macworld Keynote: Pregame chatter chatcast (TUAW.com)
Jan 10th 2006 1:05PM Hey, would you guys mind sharing your workflow for these chat sessions (not necessarily now, but at some point. I was just wondering if you manually saved each chat transcript from iChat or whatnot or if you had some neat automatic magic set up. Thanks.
Mac rumors gone too far: Steve gets into a car (TUAW.com)
Jan 10th 2006 9:35AM Wait, new iCar? Is that what someone said. Quick, to the presses! We gotta get the word out, new iCar!
Gamers could decide format winner (Joystiq)
Jan 9th 2006 1:32PM As a follow up to darryl and a clarification to the original post, MS only plans to use the HD-DVD add-on to play movies, not games (you can find this in any CES report as well as on Engadget's interview with Billy G http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/09/the-engadget-interview-bill-gates-again/ ). The drive will play games on it, but there will be no games designed specifically for it. Instead, all 360 games are and will continue to be designed for the DVD-9 spec, which the 360's internal drive supports (though the new external HD-DVD drive will likely be backwards compatible to the DVD-9 spec as well).
