Adobe's Packager to be updated for iPad support (TUAW.com)

Jan 31st 2011 10:30AM Only Adobe added iPad support for the Packager for iPhone back in June.

From: http://www.adobe.com/support/flash/downloads.html

"Flash Professional CS5 Update 11.0.1
06/02/2010 This Flash Professional update includes the latest AIR 2.0 support, support for creating full resolution iPad applications, bug fixes, and performance improvements in the Packager for iPhone."

Note that it also already supports multitouch support such as pinch. An update to the Packager for iPhone is likely in the works, to update it and get it in align with Adobe's AIR for Android API, but this rumor is way, way off.

Adobe announces 10.2 beta of Flash Player (TUAW.com)

Dec 1st 2010 10:54AM Are you testing on the YouTube example Adobe provides? Because video sites need to update their video players to take advantage of the new Stage Video API for it to work properly. In other words, you aren't likely to see many speed increases until the final 10.2 version is released.

Having Flash installed on your MacBook can reduce battery runtime by 33% (TUAW.com)

Nov 5th 2010 8:47AM Dan Woods said

"The facts are;
* A any web page with Flash _does_ consume more power than an equivalent page with only standard html5 components, whether animated or static."

This is hardly a fact and people have done benchmarks to prove HTML5 animations actually consume MORE CPU & battery than Flash does. Here is one example of such a benchmark on mobile devices:

Also Ars specifically mention in their test that static images replaced the banner ads. So you have animated content versus static content. Turning off JavaScript, CSS and images and browsing the web with just plain text will also likely increase the battery life by a few hours. However, I imagine most would rather stick with a more interactive web.

Adobe AIR 2.5 announced, supports smartphones, tablets, TVs and desktops (Download Squad)

Oct 25th 2010 8:59AM Samsuel, true, but games like Chroma Circuit, are both on Android, in the iTunes AppStore and on the web as Flash games. That game and other AIR apps all share the same codebase.

ReadWriteWeb, has a list they got from Adobe of some of the other AIR apps currently in the iTunes AppStore:

Apple quietly deprecates OS X's factory-fitted Java (TUAW.com)

Oct 21st 2010 1:14PM The thing is that Apple used to be responsible for programming the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) for Mac OS X. Java updates would come straight from Apple.

So unless Oracle/Sun or someone else fills the void and creates a new version of the JVM for Mac there will be no more Java on future versions of the Mac OS.

Adobe releases 64-bit Flash Player 'Square' for Windows, Mac, and Linux (Download Squad)

Sep 15th 2010 4:23PM Have you tested out Flash Player 64-bit on Windows XP 64-bit? Because there's no mention on the Adobe Labs page that it's not supported. However, it only links to the regular Flash Player system requirements. Note that Flash Player 64 bit does support older versions of IE. It's just the new GPU support that is only available in IE9.

Sep 15th 2010 3:15PM Yeah, the performance increase comes from Flash Player getting full GPU support in IE9. Previous GPU support in Flash Player was I think limited to video.

Adobe Illustrator HTML5 add-on pack released, lets you export CSS3, SVG and HTML directly (Download Squad)

Sep 13th 2010 6:29PM "If it's always had exporting options, why does no one ever export site designs right out of Illustrator? Did it export CSS... or lots of nasty tables? :P"

Illustrator could export images cut up with HTML, or you could export CSS that would represent the different layers inside of Illustrator. I've never used it myself so I wouldn't know how it looks, but most code generators result in lousy code. However, it could still be a starting point for developers to then tweak the code, depending on the design, which might be faster than starting from scratch.

Adobe Illustrator HTML5 add-on pack released, lets you export CSS3, SVG and HTML directly (Download Squad)

Sep 13th 2010 10:30AM "This marks a major deviation for Illustrator"

Not really, Illustrator has had an HTML export, as well as save for SVG support for years. This is just keeping up with the latest changes to HTML and using the well known HTML5 brand (despite a lot of it being CSS3). The interesting thing is Adobe rolling out support like as a add-on to Illustrator CS5 instead of holding off for Illustrator CS6.

Girls on Film: Men, Women, and Movie Obsession (Cinematical)

Aug 9th 2010 10:11PM Perhaps the proper phrasing is that the majority of men don't get worked up about action movies the same way that majority of women get worked up about romance movies. That said when talking about fandom and genre movies, you tend to get more men get more obsessive than you do women. However, teenage girls seem to bringing things to a new level, with the way they have been camping out outside of Comic-Con and camping out waiting for the premiere of Eclipse, not to see the movie but just see the actors walk by. This kind of obsessiveness from screaming teenage girls used to be reserved for boy bands from the Backstreet Boys all the way back to the Beetles.

Also the most successful romance movie to date is Titanic and that was a movie that while brought in a large percentage of women, also brought a large audience of men.
