Aug 6th 2010 11:58PM Numbeo.com seems to be bit better. It says that New York is 17% more expensive. It relies on user submitted data and allows you to submit any city. It even has my little village in the Northern Mariana Islands listed.

Travel Advice: Five ways to cope with bad restaurant service (Gadling)

Jan 26th 2010 10:16PM And here I thought I was being a jerk by dropping 3 pennies in a glass of water as a tip for bad service...

Is eBook piracy the next big thing? (Download Squad)

Jan 26th 2010 8:38PM I think the best thing the book industry can do right now is to use one single standard for ebooks with one standard DRM that all publishers can easily use and every ebook reader can utilize.

Epub is an open and workable standard that used by the Nook and Sony Reader, among many others. The problem lies with retail. If I buy an Epub book at B&N, then I should be able to use it on my Sony Reader. But alas that's not the case, different DRM systems.

That's a recipe for ordinary folks to seek solutions to breaking DRM.

Trick, repack and rethink your way around the new luggage fees (Gadling)

Jan 21st 2010 12:04AM I got a good laugh reading about the "third" carryon by using a vest. My family was traveling on Air Asia from Kuala Lumpur to Sandakan and we were pretty skint for money for excess weight(15 kilos per person is all they allowed for checkin, carryons were limited to 7 kilos and yes, they did weigh them). I was wearing a pair of khaki Army surplus pants(with tons of pockets) and an Eddie Bauer outdoor vest. I filled up every pocket with the heavy stuff. We looked like of funky like that, but once we passed through security(and their carryon scales), we just put the stuff back in our carryons.

Pocketknife found on plane causes major security drama at Dallas airport (Gadling)

Jan 20th 2010 11:55PM I think the lesson learned here is that if you find a pocketknife on a plane then you should not mention anything about it. Problem solved.

South by Southeast: Ugly bargaining (Gadling)

Jan 6th 2010 8:46PM And all of you are perfect travelers. As someone who lives on a very multicultural island and lived for 8 years in Thailand and the Philippines, it's not the ugly bargainers/complainers that make me cringe, it's those who feel like they are going native, looking down on other travelers, and feeling like they were more in tune with the local culture. To thine own self be true, my friends.

Enjoy the culture, enjoy what you are doing and let others be themselves, even if you think it's cringe worthy. Leave your foibles and superiority trips at home. Let travel naturally change you and your attitude.

me? Sometimes I acted like an ugly bargainer(and felt I had reason at the time and even now), but other times I just went with the flow. In others words, I was and am myself...
