Success & Motivation (Blog Maverick)
Jan 6th 2008 2:16PM I think everyone knows that starting your own business is a "fail a million times, win once" proposition, but here's the question: Where do you get the money to live on while making all these expensive gambles?
Lots of HDTV Channels, but No HD ? (Blog Maverick)
Sep 21st 2007 10:20PM What I think needs to happen is something like a CurrentTV for HDTV, with much lower barriers to entry. A good camera like the HV20 can produce a 1080i/60 or 1080p/24 picture for $1000 - throw in a couple hundred for mics and you actually have a pretty good setup there for indie features and shows.
Now, with the Aiptek A-HD for $180, which captures at 720p/30, you're going to find that there are people pissed that these cameras can't be used for much more than down-converting to YouTube size. That's not right, in my opinion. They need an outlet, and a combination Web/HDTV setup, where people vote on the best videos and the videos are sent to on-air play...
Basically, until the studios start pumping out good content in HD, citizen media will have to fill the gap.
(Give me an e-mail if you'd like, I've got some ideas about this.)
Once you go Mac (Blog Maverick)
Sep 17th 2007 10:43AM I’m a bit curious, though, why you decided to go with the Mac instead of downgrading back to Windows XP.
I'm not a Mac hater or fanboy - they're unmatched as far as multimedia is concerned but the hardware AND software is expensive as all get-out. I typically use Linux for work, Windows for multimedia.
Could you go into more detail about your decision?

I may not have agreed with everything you said in that post but I must agree that you said it extremely well.

It's official, Dell to ship Ubuntu loaded PCs this month (Download Squad)
May 1st 2007 10:35AM @dirt:
With Ubuntu, you can install "kubuntu-desktop" which will download and automatically install KDE on any Ubuntu system. So if Dell doesn't offer Kubuntu preinstalled, you'll have to deal with Gnome for - oh, about 10 minutes.
