AT&T's iPhone 3G S launch day pre-orders already sold out (Engadget)

Jun 14th 2009 7:58AM I'm Sorry, I just can't get excited about the new iphone.

I currently have a 1st Gen iphone, I've had it 18 months or so which for me is far too long to have a phone and I am so bored of it. No matter what silly viral apps appear each week, the device doesn't convey the magic and excitement it gave me 18 months ago.

I do need a new phone, something new, However the 3G S doesn't seem to much differ much from my original iPhone. I find the idea of upgrading a lot like upgrading your PC. Yes its faster, stronger, shinier but it is still running the same old OS. However unlike a new PC the initial excitement is short. With a PC OS you probably spend hours / days custom depending on the OS, compare that to upgrading to a new iPhone, 40 mins to sync up your device, set up you mail, calendar etc and then your a back where you left off. OK there is a few new features i would like to play around with GPS, maybe even send a MMS just because I can. However its pretty much all the same, Maybe if there were some more layers of customization, skinning, installing drivers it would hold my attention much longer.

After a few days with the device I would get all the advantages of the phones new speed but I would still have all the old disadvantages that go with the platform.

before someone says it comes with 3.0 it is just an upgrade like going to sp2 or 10.5.X

Mobinnova élan smartbook powered by NVIDIA Tegra (Engadget)

Jun 2nd 2009 12:56PM @CJ: You can't just compare two processors using two completely different architecture to one another. ARM processors tend to have a lower clock speed than x86 type chips which perform at the same relative speed.

@iofthestorm Windows CE runs perfectly fine on ARM processors. CE would be a good choice for a netbook, small and light. Most applications can either be ported or run on top of a virtual machine.
