iPod touch fee could go bye-bye (TUAW.com)

Sep 15th 2009 12:38PM To be honest, I'm a little tired of these articles. The fact is, Apple doesn't have to charge ANYTHING for its updates. Accounting never "forces" a company to charge anything. The accounting DOES force Apple to recognize revenue a certain way on its financial statements, but it does not force Apple to charge for updates.

In fact Lynn Turner, the former chief accountant of the Securities and Exchange Commission said, "[generally accepted accounting principles] doesn't require you to charge squat."

She adds, "You charge whatever you want. GAAP doesn't even remotely address whether or not you charge for a significant functionality change. GAAP establishes what the proper accounting is, based on what you did or didn't charge for it."

Being an accountant myself I tend to agree with the former chief accountant of the SEC.

Sears website shows everything you've ever bought (Download Squad)

Jan 4th 2008 3:44PM I didn't think anyone still bought anything at Sears...

Does Steve owe Apple shareholders $85 million? (TUAW.com)

Oct 11th 2006 8:30PM I'm no whiz at stock option accounting, but I would like to meet those shareholders who somehow "lost" $85 from the pricing difference mentioned in the article. The market price of the stock is completely different from the strike price of the option...

The whole article seems to jump to conclusions a bit too quickly....

The case of the missing shows in the iTunes Store (TUAW.com)

Oct 9th 2006 2:58PM As someone new to downloading TV episodes (bought my first ones this month as well as a season pass) this has been my biggest complaint. I started purchasing episodes to replace the fact that I've missed them - but having to wait three days for them to be posted is a little disappointing.

MacZOT fever spreading with MysteryZOTs (TUAW.com)

Mar 23rd 2006 12:48PM I purchased the MysteryZot yesterday as well as the one offerred last week. I have to say that although the software was a little weak, you can't beat the price! Not sure if I will continue to pay for widgets though...

Hi-tech baby drop box (Engadget)

Jan 3rd 2006 8:42PM I saw these in Germany a few years ago at a Women's shelter. Pretty ingenius actually. Although I don't condemn abandoning babies, I do think social workers are 1000 times better than a trash can.

Belkin Wireless USB Hub (TUAW.com)

Jan 3rd 2006 2:14PM Finally!! I have been asking myself forever why a simple solution like this has not been created. I believe it's a common problem - especially for laptop users who like to "sync up" or work from home occasionally. Count me in...
