Mac-friendly Houseport USB To Z-Wave adapter shipping soon en masse (Engadget)
Mar 30th 2009 12:41AM I use EvoCam and monitor 2 different cameras with it. I run the app on a mac mini that also serves as the whole house server for video/music/etc.

MacBook and MacBookPro get keyboard update (TUAW.com)
Feb 19th 2008 9:57PM Dang, I was hoping that this would fix the lockups I get when I go out of bluetooth range and then come back in.
If I hit a key on the bluetooth keyboard the MacBook crashes hard.
SP1 didn't fix it and it's a new 'feature' in Leopard.
Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.4.0 Update (TUAW.com)
Feb 12th 2008 11:02PM I wish it was to make Entrourage work with OWA, sadly that's still broken.
It's the only reason I still have my parallels VM because I can't get to email otherwise (and I really don't like the web interface so that's not a workable option).
Apple TV 2: Walk-through what's new (TUAW.com)
Feb 12th 2008 4:50PM OK, here's my 5 minute of usage review:
If you are someone who has lots of local content this update is not so hot.
All of the local content (eg. shared itunes libraries) are at the bottom of each menu and shared content isn't on the other menus.
For example - Under Movies -> Genres are only what Apple has available at the store, it doesn't appear to mix in the shared content.
That's sad since I have a massive repo of my own movies and was hoping to have them sorted to make the searching less painless (I have > 700 movies so far).
So the UI is uglier (a 2 column box on the main screen, ick) the parts I use seem to be the same with no noticeable improvments. (plus I lost the indicators that showed what tv shows I've already watched).
What's interesting is what my iTunes on my mac mini shows for the aTV now, I only have a choice of syncing the photos now, I could have sworn that I had choices of what tv shows to sync up, etc.
I'll play more tonight but so far I'm disappointed..
Watch Report reviews Nike Amp+ Remote Control (TUAW.com)
Jan 31st 2008 3:27PM
I use it when running and it's great, now I can wear the ipod on the upper arm and have full control. Previously I was carrying the ipod in my hand and now I can carry other stuff again ( water bottle, dog stick, etc).
It's also nice when doing a normal gym workout since I can hop around between podcasts, etc without having to guess at what buttons I'm pressing.
Sony's $400 digital noise canceling headphones (Engadget)
Jan 7th 2008 9:59AM
The real test of these things will be if I can listen to music while I mow the grass. I tried the Bose models and no way, if you can't drown out a simple lawn mower then it's back to the shooting plugs for me..
Too bad most of the tests with noise cancelling headsets are with low volume droning noises.
Ideally these things should be able to cancel out the crying baby in the airline seat two rows back and give me the ability to get rid of all external noise.
Asus' Eee PC on sale with 8GB SSD, 1GB RAM for $499 (Engadget)
Dec 2nd 2007 7:09PM I have one and am trying it out as a traveling computer. It's quite nice and is doing everything I need of it.
I'm posting from the MSP Airport and compared to my 'other' traveling laptop (MacBook) this thing is impressive.
The MacBook isn't that big but once again I got a chap in the seat in front of me who took advantage of the full recline during the flight out. I couldn't open my MacBook well enough to type so I transferred the doc I was working on over to the Eee with a usb stick and used Open Office to edit/etc.
The _only_ thing that's bitten me so far is that the sleep mode uses up the batteries (as opposed to the MacBook). after ~20 hours it used around 60% of the battery. Not a show stopper but something to be aware of.
The thing starts from a cold boot pretty quickly (I'm using the advanced mode and it's slightly slower). But until they get hibernate working I'm doing a power off when I'm away from power overnight.
Firefox with the Fullerscreen extension makes browsing totally useful and so far I'm not finding any major issues (when you take the price into account).
My previous travel machine was a Sony T150 and that's nice but much larger. Since I gave into the Mac urge I've managed to rid myself of all my win32 based machnes so this fits well.
Sadly there was an article that the eee will soon support MS (offically), that's too bad but was bound to happen.. I just hope the MS tax is massive to get more people exposed to the linux interface.

24 hours of Leopard: Spaces (TUAW.com)
Oct 26th 2007 1:35AM As a long time VirtueDesktop users I'm wondering if spaces will allow either a hot-edge or key combo to switch screens.
Here is what I do:
Click on the upper and right edges to switch in that direction.
Alt down and left to switch in that direction.
the logic here is that if I'm on the keyboard I can swtich easily and if I'm on the mouse again it's easy to switch desktops.
Can anyone verify that Spaces works that way? (I can't afford it till next month sadly ).
