May 18th 2010 6:23PM These are highly-rated, but very expensive. I'd love to take them for a test-run before I fork over the cash.

SkyMall Monday: Underwater Pogo Stick (Gadling)

Apr 26th 2010 4:46PM How is this different from simply bouncing on your toes underwater? You can't get much air.

What is "Travelers Night In"? (Gadling)

Apr 22nd 2010 8:09AM Thanks for your kind words, Tom.

Robbie, I'm sorry you're disappointed, and I understand that some people use Twitter as an RSS feed, but... Twitter is NOT an RSS feed. Twitter is a two-way engagement tool, and Gadling loves using it that way. Once again: TNI is ONLY 90 minutes per week (and we didn't participate last week), and we try to be very conservative during the rest of Thursday, and mostly stay out of your Twitter stream.

Regarding calling it "night"... it may not be night where you are, but it is night where some others are. Thanks for reading Gadling!

Boozing it up in Ethiopia (Gadling)

Apr 15th 2010 3:28PM In Zambia, "tella" is called "masese" (muh-SEH-say). It can be made from corn, millet, yucca or anything else that can be ground into a cereal-like powered. It takes about a week to prepare it, which is why it's often referred to as "seven days."

It's usually consumed by men, who pass a shared gourd. It can knock you flat and give you a horrid headache, but it does the trick.

Meet the "Rotel," the hotel on wheels (Gadling)

Apr 7th 2010 8:02AM Isn't this just an "overlander," hugely popular throughout Africa? If so, they stop most nights at camp sites, where they bathe, drink, and eat.

It's a bit too "package tour" for me, but the advantage is that these things can go ANYWHERE, and you're hard-pressed to visit many of the destinations they reach without such a rugged ride. Also: after spending a few weeks in such close quarters with your travel partners, you're bound to make some new friends.
