Apple scraps iOS-like slider tabs in latest Mac OS X Lion build (TUAW.com)

Apr 30th 2011 9:27AM I prefer the Slider Tab over the "depressed tab" look. The depressed tab UI is confusing. Is that last button depressed or disabled?? Grayed out UI elements make me think they are disabled, not selected. My initial thought is that it is disabled. The slider tab UI made it clear that all of the options are enabled, with the button indicating the "active" tab.

I hope Apple reconsiders this reconsideration and goes back to the initial Preview 2 look.

5 things I want to see in iOS 5 (TUAW.com)

Apr 4th 2011 8:45AM french1canadian2 shouldn't be so quick to judge. I'm in the same boat as Tomsmith - I have an 18 mo old that loves using my iPhone and iPad. Whether she is flipping through family pics, exploring the interactivity of the "The Going to Bed Book" app by Sandra Boynton, or watching Sesame Street videos on You Tube, she loves using my iDevices. It would be nice to have user profiles so that her "home screen" only contains her apps - which would keep her from "exploring" other apps that I use (like Things, Mail, etc).

How to enable Home Sharing on Mac and iOS devices (TUAW.com)

Apr 1st 2011 3:14PM @ADT2 - Does your router have two different IP scopes (one for your Wired clients and another for your Wireless clients)? I originally had my Apple TV connected to a wireless network that had one IP scope (10.0.1.x) while my wired clients were on another scope (10.0.2.x). I was unable to get Home Sharing to work. I had to make sure all machines were within the same scope for it to work.

How to enable Home Sharing on Mac and iOS devices (TUAW.com)

Apr 1st 2011 3:09PM @blogger - This is also a huge frustration point for me as well. I have multiple Macs at home and think it is pointless to have multiple copies of my media on each local machine. Sure - the Home Sharing feature exposes these files to other machines on the network, but there are limitations when using shared media that doen't exist when using locally stored media - like album art, ratings, etc.

In my ideal world each user would have their own local iTunes settings for their their individual playlists, smart folders, ratings, etc. But the physical media all resides at a single location. This would allow all of my family members to share the same library, but give us the ability to tweak our library to our liking by having individual ratings, playlists etc.

The notion that my ratings would match my wifes or my kids is just silly. It's time for an iTunes Server app to store media centrally, and our individual iTunes settings/preferences are stored locally. Make sense?

I have the same complaint about iPhoto... Would be nice to have a central repository for all of our photos, but edits, ratings, etc are all locally stored and custom for each user.

How to enable Home Sharing on Mac and iOS devices (TUAW.com)

Apr 1st 2011 3:00PM @Grant - Good catch! This is an important tip to those that expect the media that has been "Home Shared" to jump out and be obvious on an iOS device. It's hidden away under the "More" section of the iPod app.

Making it even more cumbersome is the fact that the "Shared" icon cannot be added to the "dock" area at the bottom of the the iPod app.

If you go into the Shared section and click the Edit button you will see that you can add everything else like "Playlists, Albums, Podcasts, Videos, Artists, etc...but you can't add a shortcut to the Shared feature.
