Dogs hide bones, Firefox hides useful tricks (Download Squad)

Aug 16th 2008 1:37AM What I'd like to know is why the context search never searches in phrase mode, and how to change it so that it does.

Similarly, why doesn't it go to a URL when one has selected a link or an address rather than plain text?

It would also be very handy to have a submenu with four primary search plugins listed, so that I don't have to change the plugin via the searchbar first.

Thanks Soop for the QuickDrag link, and thanks Kristin for raising the issue.

The Really Slow Download Squad: 62% of dialup users don't want high-speed (Download Squad)

Eliminate the 3 second delay when installing Firefox add-ons (Download Squad)

Apr 29th 2008 2:35PM Hmm - given that the above comment was posted without email verification (as I'd mistyped the address), it's surprising to see it turn up nonetheless.

Eliminate the 3 second delay when installing Firefox add-ons (Download Squad)

Apr 29th 2008 10:39AM The 3-second delay is nothing compared to the infinite pause after installation of extension updates.

After an extension is updated by Firefox, the installation window waits for you to click a 'Continue' button. Why? Stupidity on the part of someone, somewhere. There's no need for it, it fdoes nothing useful, provides no 'escape' like the 3-second delay. It defies logic, especially since the updates are done during startup. You'd think that all users would want to continue...

If one was looking for a reason to create a Firefox Annoyances website, this button would be a good place to start.

Facebook + Yahoo! = $1 billion? (Download Squad)

Sep 22nd 2006 3:00PM There should be a name for the inverse Midas touch, where everything turns to sludge. I am going to start calling it the Yahoo Effect. I think the big money factor fits with the bigger idea. Anything Yahoo throws money at might as well BOAKYAG.

Readers Sound Off: The best Linux distro ever (Download Squad)

Sep 18th 2006 5:15PM Um. Knoppix for ease of seeing something work. I tried red hat and Mandrake before getting that bit right.

Then I went for Kubuntu. It worked too. But I don't have time to go to the forums every other day and ask involved questions about this or that. So when my kubuntu installation started to do things I hadn't asked for, I went back to Windows full time. One day a real linux will come along, and I will poke arouind under the dashboard to mess with things just like I do now. But I haven't seen it yet.
