MacUpdate Spring Bundle details and giveaway (TUAW.com)

Mar 25th 2011 7:20PM 1password is by far the best program I've ever bought. It has singlehandedly turned me from a gaping hole in the wall of internet security to an efficient, portable, and highly protected security powerhouse!

Ask TUAW: Spring Has Sprung Edition (TUAW.com)

Mar 24th 2011 6:44PM Hey there,
I have a Mac Mini (mid-2010, non-server model running 10.6.7) hooked up to my TV for a pretty sweet home theater setup. At some point in the near future, I'm going to, one way or another, have a media server set up to stream to other TV's in the house (using either my wife's PC or my old Xbox with XBMC installed), watch on my iPhone and laptop away from home, etc. I've been eying a few NAS systems, but I recently saw that OS X Lion will include server functionality. Does this mean I could just hook a large external HD to my Mac Mini and use it as a server instead of buying a stand-alone server? And if so, should I? Are there advantages to going with a stand alone unit (like the Synology 211J, which I've had my eye on?)

Thanks for the help!!

Mar 24th 2011 10:57AM Sorry, I should also add that I'd like the server to talk to my wife's PC, not just other Macs/iOS. And that my other TV's will likely not have Macs hooked up to them, but may have something like an old X-box running XBMC or the like. Thanks in advance!

Ask TUAW: MacBook Pro cleaning, Mac maintenance, streaming video and more (TUAW.com)

Dec 11th 2010 9:08PM I'm using a Mac Mini (mid-2010 running 10.6.5) as a Home Theater PC, and recently bought a new Macbook Air (late-2010, 13" 128GB, also running 10.6.5). I have a large music library on iTunes on the Mac Mini, and I'd like to sync it with my Macbook Air for music on the go. The kicker, though, is that I'd like to have the synced iTunes library on my Western Digital My Passport 1 TB portable drive so as to save space on my MBA. I've tried setting up Mediarover, but it doesn't seem to want to treat my Mac Mini as a server. Any tips?

Apr 21st 2009 1:42PM Also waiting to purchase all 3 at once. Makes no sense to play the first two when my EXP doesn't count for anything.

TUAW Review: Scrabble for iPhone (TUAW.com)

Dec 27th 2008 11:28AM Actually, you don't need the earbuds to listen to music during the game, or any other game for that matter. Once the music fades out, just double-click the home button, and-voila-you've got a mini music controller from which you can unpause your music. This works from anywhere on the iphone/ipod touch, and is also a very handy way to skip songs without having to swipe to unlock, since it works from the lock screen as well.
