Aug 6th 2009 1:27PM I don't see taking jabs at anti-piracy techniques as supporting piracy. I see it as a criticism of a process that typically hinders legal users of software more than prohibiting illegal use and distribution.
Piracy is inevitable, and trying to prevent it at the expense of legal users is a horrible strategy. I'm not saying Microsoft's methods in this particular case necessarily does that, but anti-piracy strategies as a whole seem to more often than not.
Windows 7's sexy new taskbar + clunky old start menu = Seven Classic Start (Download Squad)
Jun 29th 2009 3:40PM I prefer the classic star menu too (By the way purplecomet84, right click on task bar, select properties, click on the Start Menu tab, click the Customize button to the right of Classic Start menu, scroll to the bottom and deselect Use Personalize Menus. That should do away with your program menu collapsing. At least, I think that's what you're talking about.), but I'm definitely not paying anything for the feature. I tend to not even use the Start menu anymore anyway as I use my Logitech G15 and RocketDock for the programs I use 99% of the time.
Open source Elisa Media Center goes cross-platform (Download Squad)
Mar 5th 2009 11:00AM I haven't tried XBMC, but I am not completely sold on Elisa either. First, and foremost, my existing Green Button remote has extremely limited functionality (as was expected). Secondly, the process of scanning for videos, music, and pictures was inordinately time consuming.
Granted, I have several gigs of music and videos, but even just a gig of images took a long time to be processed. That said, you could quickly and easily browse those same files without actually selecting specific folders within the program. All you had to do is browse through the Home Network section to shared media.
All in all, I liked what I saw. In fact, if the remote had better functionality, I would consider giving Elisa a full run on my main media center PC. Oh yeah, Elisa also has the nice feature of shuffling video files. MCE doesn't have that option, and it really stinks as I have many gbs worth of music videos that I would much prefer to be randomized. So Elisa certainly has the edge there.

Mar 5th 2009 3:13AM I'm always looking for an adequate Media Center replacement so that I can be weened from Microsoft's teat, but I have yet to find one with which I am happy.
If this develops further, it might do the trick.

Windows 7 themes for Windows XP (Download Squad)
Jun 18th 2008 3:43PM Interesting. I like the Zune theme, but wouldn't mind changing it a tad. Is there a link available for that modified Zune theme?
