Will gaming mags go the way of the Dodo? (Joystiq)
Aug 1st 2006 12:00PM I just started buying Edge (http://www.edge-online.co.uk/) regularly, after stopping buying both Games Master (target audience is too young) and Xbox 360 Gamer (too pricey and empty really).
I enjoy reading edge mainly for the long articles which you just don't find on the Internet, for example, this month there's a 6 page long article on 'The Outsider', a game I'd never heard of; now it's near the top of my to-buy-list.
It's also nicely designed, and has the occasional article about how a certain game was made (last month was Grand Theft Auto), which is just something I don't see that often online.
Plus, I just noticed the most recent news post on their site references Joystiq :)
Colorblind gaming or: Table Tennis is impossibly hard! (Joystiq)
Jul 30th 2006 1:30PM I'm colourblind, and there's only a few things on the 360 I have problems with. Firstly are the bombs on Hexic. I have the symbols on the normal pieces which helps a lot, but when it comes to bombs its usually a 50/50 guessing game.
Secondly on Oblivion, I find it impossible to tell between good adjustments to skills (green text) and bad adjustments to skills (red text). A little arrow would have been nice.
I think more developers should add features like those in Hexic, and also like in Perfect Dark Zero, where you can change the text colour of enemies and allies to something more distinguishable.
And I was going to buy Table Tennis, but if spin really is important (which I'll assume it is) I might as well not bother and just keep playing the Demo with my (also colourblind) brother :)
What are your favorite Firefox add-ons? (Download Squad)
Jul 26th 2006 3:17PM MileWideBack is the one thing I can't browse without. I got used to it two years ago (I think) and now it's always the first thing I install with Firefox.
And the rest: Adblock Plus (w/ Filterset.G), CustomizeGoogle, Del.icio.us, Download Embedded, Download Manager Tweak, Fasterfox, Favicon Picker, Foxclocks, Greasemonkey, Menu Editor, RIP, Show Image, Slim Extension List, Stealther, StumbleUpon, Tab Mix Plus, ViewMyCurrency and of course Web Developer.
Devil in the details for 360 modchip (Joystiq Xbox)
Jun 7th 2006 9:04AM Remind me what the point of wasting months of your life creating a modchip for the 360 is?

So Halo is getting repetitive but the yearly Zelda/Mario/Metroid sequels aren't?

Microsoft munches Massive Inc. (Joystiq)
Apr 26th 2006 7:53AM Newsflash! Microsoft has a lot of money and wants more!
They're not going to try and take over the world or anything, they're trying to sell their merchandise and make more money to make more merchandise to sell and expand into other markets.
Who gives a crap if the 360 is just a way for MS to get into your living room, of course it bloody is, it's a games console!
Banners saying 'Call of Duty 2 Demo Out Now' on the Marketplace are hardly advertisments, more like notifications, otherwise how would Mr Average Joe know that the CoD2 demo is out?!
The point is Microsoft made a great product, have the best online service available anywhere, and I basically think that the mere £40 a year I'm paying to keep my XBL Gold account going is more than worth it!
PS3 & PSP Oblivion ports, rumored to be in the works (Joystiq)
Apr 25th 2006 4:10PM I really really really doubt this for a number of reasons, firstly being its from a source I've never heard of, secondly because I've never heard of the N-Gage version, never mind it being popular. I'm pretty sure Bethesda will want to concentrate on making one really good game, and not some crappy portable port of one of their previous titles.
