Website owners: Opera users are the most valuable, in terms of ad clicks (Download Squad)
Aug 18th 2010 6:17PM Are they including mobile browsers? I use Opera Mini on my iPhone, and its choppy zoom tends to make my fat fingers click on things I didn't want to click on.
Giveaway: Win a copy of Immunet Antivirus 2.0 Plus! (Download Squad)
Jul 7th 2010 2:10PM Most people get viruses as an indirect result of failing to update their software. Traditional antivirus programs need to be updated by the user to be effective...cloud-based antivirus is clearly the win.
Considering the crazy: will $30 barrels of oil come back? (Autoblog Green)
Dec 22nd 2009 5:19PM I'm an analyst at a leading industry research firm - my specialty is automotive. EVsuperhero has the analysis right; oil and natural gas are demanded for different purposes, like engine fuel and home heating, and do not have a strong effect on one another.
Paul Sterne's prediction would be correct if natural gas was a perfect substitute for gasoline/diesel fuels - this would require all vehicles, including cars and aircraft, to be able to run on both fuels. In other words, this will be true once everything runs an omnivore engine.
REPORT: Spyker stock soars on word of Saab sale reconsideration (Autoblog)
Dec 21st 2009 2:39PM GM is making a huge stink about their proprietary technology in every deal. It's not as if SAAB has a version of the Volt, an HCCI engine, Onstar (?) or other GM-signature technology. I'm inclined to think this is simply anti-competitive behavior from GM, who doesn't want to face a rebuilt SAAB (with ANY of their technology) in Europe, Russia, China or Brazil (in which GM will need to compete effectively to survive long-term).
Volkswagen Polo named 2010 European Car of the Year (Autoblog)
Nov 30th 2009 2:00PM VW can't import the Polo at a profitable price because the Dollar-Euro exchange rate keeps dropping. They're going to need to establish a whole new supplier network in NA and manufacturing in Mexico before we get any love.
Strategic Vision announces 2009 Total Value Awards (Autoblog)
Nov 23rd 2009 7:07PM The blogger might want to Google "Strategic Vision Pollsters." Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight, a prominent statistician, has been pointing out LOTS of irregularities in their polls and general operations. They seem to fake their data, so this is probably equally worthless.
VIDEO: Justin Bell shows off Lexus LFA in Jay Leno's Garage (Autoblog)
Nov 23rd 2009 3:41PM Yes, 100%. I thought it looked like some cross between Akira and Minority Report. It looks great in pure carbon fiber black. Funny how seeing it in motion makes such a difference.
BMW's Baloga confirms four-cylinder diesels for U.S. market (Autoblog Green)
Nov 11th 2009 5:06PM The six-cylinder engine in the 335d can run on B5 biodiesel, I'd assume this 4 banger can too.
SEMA 2009: Local Motors Rally Fighter touches down in Vegas (Autoblog)
Nov 4th 2009 6:32PM That is seriously one of the coolest looking cars I've ever seen. It combines sleek looks and a rough-and-tumble style you just don't normally find. I'd drive one of these over most other big-brand cars and I don't even off-road.
Ram brand may enter heavy-duty 18-wheeler market (Autoblog)
Nov 4th 2009 4:33PM Daimler STILL owns Sterling, Freightliner and Western Star heavy truck brands. They are discontinuing Sterling this year. This is a really, really odd time to try and enter the heavy truck market. All of the industry's major players are cutting back production capacity and consolidating brands. On top of that, heavy truck sales are at the lowest level in over a decade.
