Why Diaspora will win (Download Squad)
May 21st 2010 1:07PM What's the point of starting another social network? The entire value of Facebook (or any social network) is who's on it. EVERYONE I know is on Facebook. Everyone I am likely to meet or develop a business relationship with is also already on Facebook. The value of Facebook isn't it's privacy features or transparency. It's the fact that there's ONE place I can go where everyone I know already is. Diaspora, or the new MySpace, or Twitter, or Foursquare, or Buzz, or Linked In, or whatever will at best only have a fraction of the number of contacts that I have on Facebook. If everyone important to me isn't on it, it will never beat out Facebook, regardless of privacy concerns.
Diaspora sounds like a worthy endeavor, but unless it takes over the world like Facebook, it's another useless social network that will get abandoned by users and developers.
I'm a Google enthusiast, and as much as I wish Google's attempts at social networks gained traction, the truth is, Facebook has won this battle. Anything else that comes along will be a niche product at best.
Scenes (Songs) We Love: "It Might Be You" from 'Tootsie' (Cinematical)
May 5th 2010 8:17PM I loved this move when it came out, and it was with some trepidation that I revisited it a couple of years ago, wondering how well it aged. And I was happy to discover that it's still amazing. Truly timeless. And this song has been in my personal top 100 for the past 25-odd years. Still a great song, and like you I can say that without a hint of irony.
'Back to the Future III' and the WTF Ending (Cinematical)
Feb 4th 2010 2:58PM It almost looks like it was timed with the camera move, so maybe he was just mimicking something the director was doing, kind of like when an actor mouths the words on a prompter when someone else is speaking.
Engadget's 5th birthday giveaway, part 2: win one of two mystery Xbox 360 packages! (Engadget)
Apr 14th 2009 11:53PM One of my favorite posts (trying to do a different one than I did for the other contest) was the one proclaiming that the Google phone was not a fantasy and was going to actually become something we could hold in our hands.
Engadget's 5th birthday giveaway, part 1: win an Optimus Maximus keyboard! (Engadget)
Apr 14th 2009 5:41PM My favorite post was the one announcing that my entry in the Engadget commercial contest was one of the finalists. I didn't win, but I had a great time producing the commercial, and now it's part of my demo reel. And I still use the iPod Shuffle I got as a prize. Thanks Engadget! But what I really want to do is thank you for allowing me to win the Ridiculus Keyboard.
