Firefox 3 download day made possible by Windows (Download Squad)
Jun 28th 2008 11:42AM While I'm no graphic designer or web developer, I know quite a few people who are and one thing they had to say about Firefox is that it still doesn't render all web pages properly. And that isn't to say that each browser isn't going to have there own issues with poorly developed pages. But Safari and, now, WebKit adhere to stricter standards which, for some, means a lot - especially to those artsy people who tend to use Macs for their work.
I love the improvements in Firefox 3. I'm using it now. But before, I was a WebKit user and I still go back to it for some sites because they don't render properly in Firefox for the Mac; they do render properly in the Windows version which says to me that Mozilla isn't giving the same kind of attention to OS X as it is to Linux or Windows.

Consumer Reports on iPhone as a Phone (TUAW.com)
Jul 9th 2007 10:47AM I almost always disagree with Consumer Reports. From their car and appliance reviews to their cell phone reviews, I've always found them too focused on getting "the most bang for the buck." While that's a good thing to want, they tend to focus on cost more than anything and often overlook quality, appearance, design, and subjective factors that make someone feel good about a large purchase. I also feel they tend to nit-pick on things that, I feel, don't matter much and certainly wouldn't make or break a decision to buy.
Bottom line, when CR reviews a product, I dismiss it. Focus on what the people say and not some overly scientific and cost biased reviewers.
You're screwed up, and it's all Mr. Rogers' fault (AOL TV)
Jul 6th 2007 3:43PM I read this article yesterday and I didn't think it blamed Mr. Rogers at all. I thought it blamed the parents more than it did him. Entitlement, as they call it, comes from the parents - which they write about. The whole basis of the article was from some post on Yahoo on how HE (Fred Rogers) liked us just for being us - who we were. Nowhere does it say Mr. Rogers said you deserve anything for being who you are. Professor Chance is using an easy target. He's blaming Mr. Rogers when he should be blaming his students' parents; the article ends on how PARENTS can prepare their children for the future and reverse the narcissism that they created by catering to their every whim.
DreamHost offers free year of Bandwagon iTunes backup and sync service (TUAW.com)
Jul 4th 2007 11:06AM I read the April 2nd post about How to Backup a Mac to your DreamHost account (written by Michael Lee of Addison Road) and ever since following the instructions, I've never looked back. While I think the partnership makes it easy, I can backup so much more with the 'How To' article than I can with Bandwagon. I've got my iPhoto, iTunes, documents, and files all backed up nightly. If easy is your thing, then go for Bandwagon. But if you aren't a DreamHost customer or want total backup, then use Automator and iCal to schedule your backup jobs with an SSH/SFTP client.
Review: Sicko (Cinematical)
Jun 30th 2007 8:34PM I've heard that Cuba's system is good because it involves a lot of preventative care and regular visits to a general practitioner. But I've also heard that families often have to bring common supplied like blankets and pillows to the hospitals for those under a doctor's care.
I'd like to know if Moore compares the technology behind the care. While access to regular doctor visits is great and preventative care means a world of difference, if one has cancer, can they treat it like they do here?
I guess I'm asking if he is comparing health care systems in all ways or if he is trying to play up the haves vs have-nots again. I would want a good comparison to Cuba's cancer survival rates compared to those with and without health care to see if there is any correlation to the access to doctors vs the access to technology.
The Office: The Job (season finale) (AOL TV)
May 18th 2007 1:09AM I thought this episode was great! I cringed and laughed out loud equally; I felt the writing and acting was perfect.
I loved Pam's reaction when Jim said "It's a date." It was amazingly natural; Michael's tears don't ever look that way - they always look a little contrived... forced. But the best was Ryan. The sh*t eating grin he had on the phone was great! And when he twitches his head back just a little in answering Kelly's question of who was on the phone was perfect. All the while he was staring out into the distance - almost looking into the horizon of what is to come. Only to say that they were done and just before the camera cuts, to look at it with a Joker-esq look had me laughing so hard I think my neighbors in the next apartment heard me.
What I like most of all is the setup for next season. The intern is Michael's new boss. Jan could be living with Michael and going crazy (and driving him crazy). Karen could be back at the Scranton office with Jim and Pam after Jim left Karen in NYC (not to mention took Pam out to dinner). So much painful drama and comedy to look forward to. This is the one show I wish was on next week; the others I watch, I could wait a few months... but not The Office.
The 14 most touching Simpsons episodes (AOL TV)
May 17th 2007 11:43AM Great list! There are so many touching moments in The Simpsons; I think its one reason so many people enjoy the show - it has comedy and family drama all wrapped together. Still, when reminded of the Summer of 4ft 2 episode, I couldn't help but remember my most favorite Homer quote/reaction to seeing his car covered with sea shells:
"Sweet merciful crap!
I burst out laughing just thinking of it.
Such good stuff...
Here's a list of shows that might not come back this fall (AOL TV)
Mar 12th 2007 8:01PM I bet the reason that Rules of Engagement is so successful is because it pokes fun at relationships. Since most of America has dysfunctional marriages (50% divorce rate) and countless other affairs, its a silent way to release. It appeals to the lowest common denominator. Much like all escapism TV.
IMHO
iPhone price too high? (TUAW.com)
Feb 26th 2007 5:03PM People should try and remember you aren't buying a phone. You aren't buying an iPod either. You are buying BOTH. And like some of the other commentators noted, new phones do get launched with $499 price tags. Now, what remains to be seen is if Apple/ATT adjusts the price over time like others mobile phones or if they will remain constant like most of the iPod line.
