Nov 19th 2010 1:50PM In defense of MMO's in general, and particularly FFXI due to the restrictions enforced by PS2 compatibility, reskins also save quite a bit on memory usage. Rather than have the load models and textures it only has to load the new textures. FFXI has been held back quite a bit by the limitations of the PS2 for a while now.Also, I would like to point out that the new skins for the same old armor is quite a bit more detailed than the old stuff, which is really nice.
