I suspect the author initially thought about the comparison to an iPhone because it's an item with which a broad range of the public is familiar and has experience. Since it’s a common device which many of us carry around in our pockets on a daily basis, the comparison is much like the old comparisons of 60's and 70's supercomputer processing capability to 90's calculators. Time to get down off that high horse, Tex.
