Aug 9th 2010 12:39PM @Ethan For the big hundred people in a lecture hall type classes, it wouldn't really matter if you were live or remote. On the other hand, those classes are the very first thing I would eliminate if I was trying to remake higher education, because they vary between "tedious" for rote memorization classes, and "completely useless" for anything that requires you to learn how to actually do something. Really, they're obstacles put in the way of your education by universities that don't want to have to provide expensive facilities for majors like science and engineering.

Jul 26th 2010 10:57AM @wobbles It's not even 3000 MW, if you read the fine print, this farm will only put out 570 MW. Which is kind of pathetic for a billion dollars.
By way of comparison, Grand Coulee Dam puts out an average of 2300 MW, with a peak capacity of 6,800 MW. An average nuclear power plant puts out 1000 MW per reactor.

Jul 19th 2010 10:38AM The thing that killed the hobbyist PC market wasn't game consoles, which had existed alongside them the whole time. It was Mom and Dad giving the kids their hand-me-down PC when they upgraded. After that started happening, there was no need for hobbyist PCs like the Ataris or Commodores.
