Amazon Kindle DX first hands-on (with video!) (Engadget)
May 6th 2009 11:53AM I also never really see this taking off in the office/work environment OR in college. Most people doing research typically have several books open at once, or at the very minimum, different pages open at once to reference. You would need to have multiple Kindles to accomplish the same thing.
Same thing in the office. When going over docs and research, I usually have many pages on my desk to go through. Especially when comparing or researching. I would need to have multiple pads to accomplish the same thing.
That's where the true expense comes in.

Amazon Kindle DX first hands-on (with video!) (Engadget)
May 6th 2009 11:49AM I would happily purchase something like this if I could get all my magazine and newspaper subscriptions on it. The idea of not having to pack ten magazines in my carry on bag at the airport would be amazing, and the simple idea of saving all that wasted paper just makes me happy.
Sadly, 99% of the magazines I read are not available on this device. PCMag, Macworld, most other tech mags. The Washington Post FULL EDITION, things like that. Its annoying. And no, I wouldn't need it to have color to enjoy the info I get from these.
The success of iTunes is that you can actually PURCHASE what you use to get on CD from the store. If Amazon truly wants to succeed with this, they will need to do the same with print.

Spb release Mobile Shell 3.0 for Windows Mobile (Download Squad)
Apr 22nd 2009 11:54AM All that on a phone that's two years old!
My Mogul is actually a spare phone. Over the years, I have upgraded to the Touch and Touch Diamond. Both had screens die so I always pulled the Mogul out for backup. I am very impressed with how smoothly this runs on such old hardware. There are some slow downs (ironically enough, using the stylus actually makes the transitions and swipes more crisp!) however they are negligible and certainly no worse than TouchFlo 3D on the newer hardware.
I am going to download Opera Mini to see how that plays out, then just map it to the browser button and put a widget on my home screen for it.
Anyhow, well worth the money, especially for older hardware.
And for the record, I have had none of the challenges that others seem to be having on the spb Message Boards. Even the Facebook integration works flawlessly.

Spb release Mobile Shell 3.0 for Windows Mobile (Download Squad)
Apr 22nd 2009 9:21AM I have a Mogul running spb Mobile Shell 2.1 and upgraded as soon as I got the message yesterday.
This software is very very cool. And while I await the release of the Pre, I have to admit that this software truly adds new life to my Mogul.
Palm announcement coming later today? (Engadget)
Apr 1st 2009 9:10AM I'm gonna have to weigh in here on the same tune. Been with SPRINT since they bought Nextel (was with them for years before that).
I've had some unbelievable mistakes setting up accounts, but by the same token, some unbelievable customer service trying to get them repaired. Each time, someone took a lot of personal time, sometimes HOURS, to help me resolve challenges.
I travel all over the US and have never had my SPRINT service drop out except in extreme rural areas. Heck, it even works in Mexico, though SPRINT has dropped the Mexico calling and data plan they use to have. And you can use voice and data together, it just drops the 3G speeds down to regular cellular speeds.
I am an Apple house and workplace, but I won't switch to the iPhone because I won't let go of my SPRINT service. I will happily roll with the Pre when its released. Then, depending on the phone, possibly try out the Touch Pro 2 when its released.

Amazon MP3 has little or no effect on iTunes (Download Squad)
Apr 16th 2008 7:59AM You do realize that CD's are not analog ... right?
LP and some tapes are analog. CD's are digital, just not usually compressed like digital downloads.
When CD's came out, the whole analog vs digital sound was big. Same thing when transistors replaced tubes.
Old argument, just not relevant when talking about CD's vs downloads.

Consumer Reports creates 5,500 new computer viruses (Download Squad)
Aug 18th 2006 4:16PM Get a grip.
No one released the viruses into the "general population". New human viruses are created every day in the lab. They just aren't released into the public.
Same thing happened here.
If Consumer Reports did it, so could others (quite easily). Nice to see how these programs reacted. Most are SUPPOSE to use various technologies to stop "new" threats.
