TurboLinux's Wizpy: bootable Linux on a PMP (Engadget)

Nov 21st 2006 2:13PM The big question - without the Linux, how's the PMP video and music and interface?

Wouldn't it make more sense to get a cheap USB drive?

Nov 17th 2006 11:49AM Sadly, the reception to the next version of Microsoft's Zune was less welcoming.

Archos 504 PMP reviewed (Engadget)

Oct 5th 2006 9:52AM How does this compare to AV500 and the AV604? I have an AV500 and generally love it, but am wondering if I should upgrade at some point. I don't need video recording anymore (yay MCE), so the lack of a dock isn't a killer.

Gripes about the AV500 I hope they've fixed:
- no MPG-1, MOV, FLV support (okay, I know the FLV and MOV are long-shots, but they'd be nice)
- still some AVIs that won't play
- lousy, lousy speaker. So quiet I can't hear it unless I hold the AV500 up to my ear like a boom box.
- cryptic three-bar battery-life indicator.

But I do love the AV500, for what it is. It's been the best PMP so far.

Oct 4th 2006 10:45AM The ability to switch between active and passive digitizer would be killer. That means it could run a modified UMPC front-end.

SanDisk's 4GB Ultra II SDHC for performance photogs (Engadget)

Sep 27th 2006 12:28PM I can see this as starting a trend to use SD cards instead of USB drives, especially since so many computers have card readers. For example, I could save a video from my desktop PC onto the SD card, then plug the card into my Media Center PC and play it directly...less hassle and size than a USB flash drive. But are the speeds faster or slower?

Buffalo's USB keyboard and Skype handset (Engadget)

Sep 27th 2006 9:12AM Left-hand side please, or have it be movable. Do most people use their right hand to answer the phone? I use my left at work so I can use the mouse with my right.

Raon Digital Vega UMPC reviewed (Engadget)

Sep 22nd 2006 12:04PM Without built-in WiFi and/or Bluetooth, they're really shooting themselves in the foot. Even a CF/SD/PCMCIA card with support for WiFi would be nice.

Too bad - this could've been a DualCor killer.
