SugarSync offers limited, free online backup (Download Squad)

May 9th 2009 4:11AM I hate Carbonite and now dead Upline because by default, they only backup _DOCUMENTS_. Let's take an example: I'm backing up my pictures folder. My laptop gets stolen. I restore my files to discover that the movies I took with my camera among the still pictures have never been backed up. For me that risk of not having everything backup makes the service worthless.

Dropbox is nice but it's a dedicated place where you have to put your stuff to have it backed up.

With SugarSync, I can mark my pictures folder to be backed up and forget about it. I can download the pictures on my laptop or desktop computer, they're automatically synced. And if I want to send the pictures to my family, I only need a few clicks to share the pictures online, with gallery, full resolution and all. When I'm visiting family somewhere, I can just log in to their website and access my files, show the pictures etc.

I subscribed to SugarSync last year and after testing the other services, I'm renewing with them.
