The situations inevitably worsen when the vendors/bus drivers/guesthouse workers smile and chuckle when the enraged tourists lose their composure. Pro tip: They're laughing to deflect how seriously impolite you're being, not making light of your displeasure over the $7 you paid for those Gap pants.

Apr 29th 2009 3:36PM If you don't plan on getting a Blu-ray setup, I say you're good for now. Nothing you have necessitates an HDMI connection and your HD-DVD player can't do any of the high-res audio formats. HDMI won't do anything better than an optical cable with the content you have now. If anything, I would look for new speakers, but you can get them slowly, when you've got time--there are always good deals on eBay for any price range.

Dec 3rd 2008 3:36PM @KMAN: Close, but the PS3 doesn't do DVD-A. It'll play the lower-rez DTS or DD tracks on DVD-As, but not the high-rez audio. But the SACD stuff is sweet--everyone should hear "Ziggy Stardust" on SACD at least once.

Aug 27th 2008 3:55PM SACDs DO NOT play in regular CD players. There are hybrid discs that have both regular CD data and SACD data on them, but plain vanilla SACDs will only play in deicated machines, or a first-generation PS3s.
