HP releases netbook interface for Ubuntu (Download Squad)

Feb 6th 2009 10:01PM Hi Paulo,
I have found that HP MIE is pretty good, flash 10 works out of the box, no serious problems with audio (the speaker quality is not amazing, its a bit of a challenge to get USB audio working and the headphone jacks audio quality is rather bad, though that might be caused by a software filter of some sort). As soon as I got the HP I loaded up the terminal and installed VLC so I have not really experienced the default media codecs.

HP to publicly release Mi Edition Ubuntu installer (Engadget)

Feb 5th 2009 11:32AM You can get a 6cell for the mini 1000, but its insanely expensive, like $160 expensive, not worth it for a system that starts at $329

HP to publicly release Mi Edition Ubuntu installer (Engadget)

Feb 5th 2009 7:58AM I have been using MIE on my HP Mini 1000 mi for a few days now, and I must say, its really pretty slick. I wish it was slightly more customizable (I would love an rss feed down the right instead of the picture and music browser, and get rid of HP Mediastyle, replace it with a UI designed for mouse input, the use of a 10ft interface is really stupid on a netbook). I hope that they release the source for this as well, because it has such potential, with a little tweaking it would could easily be the easiest and nicest looking system out there. HP also needs to crank up speed on approving applications for use in the installer (I don't mind using synaptic, which is available, but I am sure there are many people out there that would be a little intimidated).

HP releases netbook interface for Ubuntu (Download Squad)

Feb 4th 2009 3:49PM I have had a HP Mini 1000 mi since Monday and I must say I am rather impressed with this UI (I am writing this on it right now). I have been a linux user for many years, but this takes the ease of ubuntu up to a whole new level. I still find myself turning to the terminal fairly often (the apt-get front end that comes with MIE is limited to HP approved applications). There are a few bugs that hopefully will be cleared up with an update soon, but I have not encountered any show stoppers yet. All-in-all the whole HP Mini 1000 mi package is damn sweet.
