ScreenFlow: Screencast for the Mac with style (Download Squad)
May 2nd 2008 5:42AM I've used (I'm pretty sure) all the Mac screencast tools and NONE of them ever got me close to ditching my Windows machine and Camtasia Studio. People mention SnapzProX and that's not even a viable option if you want to stay sane. Rendering takes for-freaking-ever and then it GOES AWAY! I can't even try a different codec, etc. Bah!
But with the 1.1 version of ScreenFlow, I've now switched completely away from Camtasia. In fact, I no longer feel the need to keep a Windows machine around, so I'll be putting that laptop up on Craigslist very soon.
Yes, there are more features in Camtasia than in ScreenFlow -- but ScreenFlow does some things that are just so cool they make up for any "shortcomings." Plus, the 1.1 update had some really cool features added so it's obvious Vara Software isn't sitting still. By the time the Mac version of Camtasia arrives they will have some serious competition with ScreenFlow (if they don't already).
I have some screencasts showing tips with ScreenFlow: http://screenflowtips.com
I think ScreenFlow is a "killer app" for Leopard.

ScreenFlow: The killer screencasting app is here (TUAW.com)
Mar 9th 2008 8:46PM Record only part of the screen: You don't do that with Screenflow, you record the whole thing. Then you can either add a video action, or, if you really only want part of the screen, use the "square in a square" button right above the timeline (on the left) and resize the canvas.
Crashing: I'm using Version 1.0 (9821) and am not crashing, although I'm only using the demo and doing 1-3 minute tests.
Waiting for Camtasia: A document on their web site said they wouldn't match Windows Camtasia until sometime in 2009 -- I've done dozens and dozens of screencasts with Camtasia but Screenflow appears at this point to give me 95% of what I need. And at a price point of $99 it would be foolish of me to wait for Techsmith.
I may not switch completely away from Camtasia for the simple fact that I think my Windows customers will be confused if I'm showing them a Mac program (I could be underestimating them, though).
