The myths behind launching a Digg clone (Download Squad)
May 11th 2007 3:15PM Hey, thanks for the link.
Pligg is still maturing, but it has a lot of potential. It would be hard to duplicate the success of Digg, but there's a place for Digg-like sites that focus on smaller communities.
I wrote the piece because I wanted to dispel some of the unrealistic expectations I think a lot of people have that they'll just throw up one of these sites and it will magically succeed on its own.
Panic releases Coda web editor (TUAW.com)
Apr 25th 2007 8:52PM Coda takes a little warming up to, but I like it more the more I use it. I've posted a handful of tips, some fairly obvious and some easy to miss, at http://www.upstartblogger.com/30-panic-coda-tips-and-tricks, including the MAMP tip (thanks to #19 by dunk!).
Apple KB Article: How to clean your Mighty Mouse (TUAW.com)
Dec 12th 2005 3:34PM I'm glad you found the reference to the Apple Knowledgebase article on my site (and thanks for the link!), but you forgot to tell your readers my recommendation for cleaning the Mighty Mouse. Instead of using a lint-free cloth and water, as Apple recommends (which, according to their own instructions can damage your mouse if you overdo the water), I suggest using an antistatic cleaning wipe. They're inexpensive and they evaporate quickly, making them less likely to damage your Mighty Mouse.
Tiger's "half-baked" RAW handling (TUAW.com)
Jun 23rd 2005 3:35PM It's true that iPhoto doesn't actually let you edit your original RAW files, but Photoshop users who use iPhoto may also be surprised to notice that they are editing a JPEG even when they open an image from iPhoto in their external editor. To edit the original RAW image, drag the image from iPhoto onto your Photoshop or Photoshop Elements icon in your Dock. You'll find more information here: http://www.futurosity.com/index.php?id=117.
Virgin Install (TUAW.com)
Jun 22nd 2005 12:49AM Menu Meters is a great way to monitor your system. Dasher will bring up your Dashboard at a set interval. TransparentDock will give you... a transparent Dock. TinkerTool for tinkering with system settings. JunkMatcher for spam filtering; essential if you use Mail.
