Jan 21st 2009 7:25PM This clearly states that standby keeps RAM active, not hibernate. You can hibernate a PC for ten years whilst the battery/power is disconnected, plug it back in and turn it on and the pc will still be in exactly the same state.
I have even moved hard disks between two different PCs after hibernating and resumed the state from one on another!

Jan 21st 2009 7:19PM This is what hibernate is for - a computer does not use ANY power whilst in hibernation.
Hibernation saves the active memory to hard disk and then powers down. When it wakes, it copies the memory back from the hard disk to RAM.
