Video: Manhattan's speed limit - Do you know it? (Autoblog)

Nov 29th 2010 6:13PM @iScream
You are correct car ownership is pretty low in NYC and those that have ones, use them infrequently.

The problem is the out of town morons who come to visit (yeah I am talking about you Goober) who can't read signage (One Way means ONE F'in WAY!) and generally try to show NYC how bad ass drivers are from "Po-Dunk, Kentucky" or whatever back water small town they flew in from.

Those are ones causing the problems. Well that plus all the Bridge&Tunnel idiots who drive to work or play in NYC rather than take mass transit because "They love their cars" Morons.

Check the driver's hometown vs pedestrian accidents - mostly-out-of state and outside of NYC drivers.

Oh and SF cab drivers make NYC cabbies look sedated. Blame that on the SFPD enforcing zero traffic laws. Who wants to pull over some jerk cab driver when you can just hand out $75 parking tickets?

Detroit 2010: Caption Contest - What the heck are Bob Lutz and Elon Musk talking about? (Autoblog)

Jan 13th 2010 4:49PM Musk: So do you have any tips for Tesla when my charm, money and good luck run out?
Lutz: Hope you can BS the next sucker, speak with authority and age with distinction!

Musk: Basically, you are saying I am screwed and should focus on the rocket thing?
Lutz: BINGO! My career survived and when you get your Man voice, yours will too!

Will curbside EV charging fall prey to vandals and miscreants? (Autoblog)

Dec 26th 2009 2:21PM I've been a fan of this inductive charging idea for since I first heard about it back in '07.
The kicker for me is the road panels are integrated with solar, LEDs and other wiring.

http://www.grist.org/article/2009-08-28-could-we-replace-roads-and-parking-lots-with-solar-panels

Expensive? Not anymore so than the asphalt it replaces IF the lifespan turns out to be what they are projecting

Wait, I am sorry. There I go again, thinking people want solutions. Unless someone is making far more money than they deserve, or just outright stealing it, the idea will never get off the ground.

Nice to dream tho'

BusinessWeek calls out 50 Ugliest Cars of Past 50 Years... with questionable results (Autoblog)

Nov 4th 2009 2:38PM Gotta admit, once I got past my personal favorite ugly ducklings, I had to agree with all 50. I realized if I left out personal feeling or didn't make excuses for the car, all 50 would be downright ugly or just poorly designed.

A pretty accurate list for the car lover without any bias.

If your favorite fan-boi car was in the list, look deep inside and see the ugly, it is there. Embrace that you love something that is flawed and possibly ugly. It will be OK, breathe...

T-Mobile USA down all over the place? (update: yes) (Engadget Mobile)

Nov 3rd 2009 9:00PM Not to jinx myself but no problems on either of my G1s here in the San Fran Bay Area all day long. Hope they get everyone's service up quickly

Qik for iPhone 3GS now available, still not capable of live 3G streaming (Engadget Mobile)

Aug 14th 2009 11:30AM As a G1 user on T-Mobile, I used Qik frequently and am actually very surprised it does not stream on the iPhone.

While the G1's video/audio quality is not up to my expectations, Qik works as it should, all the time. Even when using Edge connections, it doesn't stream well but the videos still upload for viewing.

Since the iPhone has very high quality video, I wonder if it is a CPU limitation with resizing and changing the bit rate in real time?

Hyundai trumps BMW and Jaguar in J.D. Power 2009 APEAL study (Autoblog)

Jul 16th 2009 11:18AM Luis?
Have you recovered from your pill popping extravaganza?

The Malibu LT (rental) is cheap looking compared to which of its' direct competitors?

The Accord LX? or the EX with leather? I've ridden in every possible combination of Accord, and they ALL look cheap. Wide, cheap plastic as far as the eye can see. Tiny creases that trap dust and plastics covering all the instruments/radio at look like they scratch with a stern glance. Love that 80's soft glow LCD for climate controls.

The Camry is actually a little more visually but textures are worse. What the Camry has in looks is over-shadowed by the "Base Model" feeling. Overall it is three way tie. They all suck in different ways. None is that much better than the other.

I will say that Malibu all black interior looks dingy as quick as the Accord, they are odd shades of gray and the sun brings out the bad angles. Lucky for both cars, Armor-All is just a wipe away. Watch out for scrapes on the Accord - they will NOT buff out.

To say any attribute of a $20K 4 door sedans is bad or sub-par is childish, they are volume sellers, not halo cars. They will all fail when compared to anything else more focused and or more expensive.

Google Voice apps now live on Android and BlackBerry, iPhone en route (Engadget Mobile)

Jul 15th 2009 3:26PM Got my invite on the 3rd but, my other G1 on my account didn't get an invite...odd.

Been using YouMail for sometime now will compare and contrast to see if Google will more than just a unified number.
Very easy setup and it seems to work fine, so far it looks quite impressive.

Where is the government spending for plug-in hybrid conversions? (Autoblog Green)

Jul 14th 2009 3:32PM After reading the Title I was less than thrilled about this article.

After reading the content I was, as expected, fired up.

Let's take a look the Demographics of the Prius owner:
* 71 percent of respondents earned more than $100,000 per year.
* 73 percent were 40 years or older.
* 58 percent were men.
* 88 percent were “very happy” with their Prius; 12 percent were “somewhat happy.”

These are the people we need to reward with tax credits?
Laughable.

Show me a program is designed to puts some of unemployed 9.7% of this country's workforce BACK to work and I will be happy to sign off on it. . And don't give me that crap that R&D money wasted on "bridge technologies" like PHEV provide any return in employed workforce numbers. Tesla employs what 250? Wow, impressive.

We need the unemployed back to work so the whole country can recover so green technology can continue to thrive and evolve.

Oh I am sorry didn't you get the memo: unless the country recovers pronto, few people will care about Eco this or Green that - they will be too busy caring about food and shelter.

What we don't need is another tax credit for the working White Male 40+ $100K+ demographic.

EDITORIAL: Attention Wall Street Journal - Ford does not use Toyota's hybrid system! (Autoblog Green)

Jul 3rd 2009 11:40AM the4thheat,

Just wondering are you on the WSJ or Toyota blog payroll?
Your post is just a re-hash of the WSJ article but here is the link to the TRW patent:
http://www.google.com/patents?id=sDtsAAAAEBAJ&dq=Baruch+Berman

Interesting is the pending cases of hybrid patent infringement against Toyota. And the one they lost already. How many more will pop up? Patent Trolls are very patient folk. Will it hurt Toyota? Not likely, but why should size/power/wealth have anything to do Patent enforcement/infringement?

Patent hording is a very effective way to make money, even if you didn't invent what you own the patent for.

Overall, this whole nonsense is just another sign the patent system is useless and needs to be overhauled. Drug patents is what technology patents should look like - 7 years then it is open to copying.

At least it would help companies to improve and innovate, rather than horde and sue.
