Forthcoming Windows notebooks hint at next-gen MacBook Pro CPUs (TUAW.com)

Nov 28th 2010 6:12PM This headline is grossly misleading- no sourced or unsourced references to MacBook Pros anywhere. Considering how long Apple's stuck to Core 2 Duo for machines relying on integrated graphics, there is plenty we still need to know before this news is relevant to Apple at all. Right now it's very early speculation.

HTC Desire in the US pipeline for 'select regional operators' this August (Engadget)

Jun 16th 2010 12:58PM @ComeShot High-end smartphones on MVNOs? That was more like what killed Amp'd Mobile. It's not a match business-wise. (And the Incredible is the CDMA Desire basically.)

Western Digital announces Mac-friendly My Book Studio LX drives (Engadget)

Jun 8th 2010 4:37PM I just bought the previous My Book Studio 2TB model a couple of weeks ago for $199... It looks like this is the same thing but with aluminum. For $100 more. :-/

ASUS CEO: netbooks will outsell tablets, Eee Pad to run 'Microsoft software' (Engadget)

Apr 30th 2010 5:16PM @NewL
The evidence is here: The $500 iPad has a contribution margin of $240 (minus initial development costs.) More expensive models have an even higher profit. Netbook prices are so low that they make tiny margins.
The issue isn't a "one-is-better-than-the-other" deal, since one is a low cost device and the other one is a premium luxury device. ASUS is wrong to think one serves as a substitute for the other.

ASUS CEO: netbooks will outsell tablets, Eee Pad to run 'Microsoft software' (Engadget)

Apr 30th 2010 4:57PM Selling more units doesn't mean much when the margin on a netbook is close to nothing, while tablets manage to rake in the big bucks. Have fun spinning your portables problem that way, ASUS, I wouldn't want to be an investor based on what the CEO is saying.

Another Palm exec is out... and CEO Jon Rubinstein is next? (Engadget)

Apr 23rd 2010 6:53PM Seeing as Palm took this long to get a product on Verizon or AT&T, the VP of Carrier Marketing should have been fired, not allowed to leave this late in the game.

AT&T's Q1 results: earnings down thanks to one-time charge, NYC seeing 'solid improvements' (Engadget)

Apr 21st 2010 5:18PM I'd sure like to see AT&T's math for their "composite 3G voice quality index"... Otherwise this graph is pretty arbitrary.

Henge Docks: finally, a well designed docking station for Apple's MacBook line (Engadget)

Apr 19th 2010 6:20PM A lot of enterprise notebook lines from other vendors have serious docking stations with their own docking port that consolidates all the various I/O for ports on the dock, and allows the machine to be used in a dual monitor configuration. It's really a shame that not much exists on the Mac side, especially considering the popularity of MacBook Pros in the workplace.

Motorola Devour launching somewhere on February 25th, everywhere on March 15th (Engadget)

Feb 12th 2010 1:35AM This Supply Chain nerd thinks that "indirect channel" probably means third-party phone retailers... So no buying direct from VZW until March 15.

Motorola Shadow is Nexus Two with sliding QWERTY keyboard? (Engadget)

Jan 17th 2010 4:53PM @TareG If a decent one would come out, yes. Last I checked, the performance on them was pretty dismal.

I think the real change for android gaming is upcoming, now that there are some real 3D APIs in the OS. I don't know if they'll make much use of the D-pad, though, because of the differing device form factors. We have yet to find out how well the Android marketplace will address different hardware capabilities. Hopefully it gets handled better than it was on Windows Mobile.
