Adblock Plus for Chrome coming soon (Download Squad)

Dec 17th 2010 9:48AM @Cougar Abogado - Since version 2.0, Adblock for Chrome has been able to prevent ads from downloading.

Install Android 2.2 Froyo on your jailbroken iPhone 3G over-the-air with Bootlace (Download Squad)

Nov 9th 2010 12:03PM "Funny how the jailbreak community has made the process of installing Froyo on an iPhone easier than updating many Android phones."

You mean, except for the part where you have to jailbreak your iPhone and install Cydia first? Once you've rooted an Android phone, ROM Manager is both free and pretty darn simple to use.

Now, rooting Android itself ranges from stupidly easy (Univeral Androot, SuperOneClick, Unrevoked) to "be careful you don't brick your phone" (the 2-hour old as of this comment perma-root & s-off solution for the HTC Vision/G2).

Miranda IM 0.9 is now out -- new icons, better Win7 support, and lots more! (Download Squad)

Aug 25th 2010 4:33PM The main thing it offers is the most lightweight and customizable chat experience available in Windows.

The closest analogy I can think of is that Miranda IM is like the Foobar2000 of IM clients.

Aug 25th 2010 4:26PM The large file transfer support isn't as much of a WTF as the x64 version. Who /needs/ their IM client to be able to use more than 4 GB of RAM?

I'm not sure that putting the "pretty" contact list & tabbed chat window plugins (e.g. clist_nicer, scriver/tabsrmm) into a separate download was the best idea. I understand that they're really 3rd party plugins, but if they're going to bother making an official download for them, bundle them into the program.

VistaSwitcher is a beautiful Alt-Tab replacement (Download Squad)

Aug 25th 2010 2:50PM This other application you're thinking of... It wouldn't happen to be TaskSwitchXP (http://www.ntwind.com/software/taskswitchxp.html), would it? If so, then the similarities would be due to the fact that they're both from the same company. :-)

Their WindowSpace application is awesome too.

Final Internet Explorer 9 preview released -- tons of fixes, speed-ups, and only 8 weeks until the beta (Download Squad)

Aug 4th 2010 4:05PM Even if it's not as "nice" as Firefox, Chrome, or Opera, it's the default browser on Windows. If MS pushes this down through Windows Update, that's millions of PCs that will get updated from IE 7/8 to IE9. That's that many fewer IE-specific hacks that web developers have to deal with. It also means that high performance HTML, CSS, SVG, and JavaScript are the norm, not the exception.

Images of IE9's interface leak, including Chrome-like 'start' tab and download manager (Download Squad)

Jul 29th 2010 10:01AM @Mark: There was no "tricking" going on, turning "Turbo" off actually lowered the CPU clock. Early implementations lowered the clock back to the 8086's "standard" 4.77 MHz, but on later systems they simply halved or quartered the CPU clock.

Usability rant: why doesn't KeePass have a Read-Only mode? (Download Squad)

Jul 23rd 2010 1:20PM If the file isn't supposed to have been modified, why are you saving it?

Also, DataBaseBackup Plugin (http://keepass.info/plugins.html#databasebackup) FTW.

RecycleBinEx is an awesome recycle bin app for your Windows 7 taskbar (Download Squad)

Jun 15th 2010 2:20PM I've had this downloaded but hadn't bothered to install it yet. However, it didn't even occur to me that since it's an app it'd go into the SuperBar without any hacks or QuickLaunch stupidity. This is the app that kicks the last icon off my desktop! Sweet!

Granola helps your computer save power (and the planet) (Download Squad)

May 10th 2010 1:19PM I don't get it. Windows XP & up already enable SpeedStep/Cool n' Quiet. What does this do on top of that?
