Jul 24th 2010 12:40AM I'm surprised they don't show the original Droid which I find does actually have a signal problem - if I grasp it tightly near the bottom, I can see the signal strength in the Status menu drop about -10 dBm and it happens every time.

Jul 15th 2010 8:00PM SSH server at home, custom launcher on flash drive that silently opens Plink to connect to the proxy server and a copy of Opera configured to use my proxy with one click. Works great!
They have one of those stupid 8e6 R3000 at school and they're configured to not allow exectuables to run from the hard drive or certain ones at all, like PuTTY (which I used to use for this), Remote Desktop (I used to do that too!) and Opera. The list is stored in the registry which I found online looking through Novell's documentation, so my launcher deletes that key so everything runs. I guess I'll find out if they've plugged the holes in September or if they've fixed the recycler virus that's on every computer.

Jul 14th 2010 8:47PM @omegaslast Msconfig is not the tool to use when disabling startup items, even Microsoft says it is only supposed to be for temporary changes. Use Autoruns as it properly disables items and is more comprehensive.

And get a Dell business laptop with ProSupport if you want to talk to someone that is knowledgeable and understandable. They even followed up with me later to male sure everything was fine. ProSupport = worth every penny.

May 24th 2010 4:36PM Eight to ten steps? You put a blank CD in the drive, drag some files to the CD icon in My Computer (or right click > Send To > disc drive) and right click the CD icon and Write these files to CD. Really not that hard.

HP Envy 15 said to be suffering from blank screen issues, lousy webcam (Engadget)

May 20th 2010 11:13PM @Bengal34 The dv2000/6000/9000 of a few years ago were extremely defective mostly due to nvidia chipsets, not to mention desktops with the same problem and another one I've dealt with. I've also gotten exchange components through the warranty, for example they sent me 3 video cards and 2 hard drives, all of them were broken in some way. Also a 300+ page forum thread on HP about a defective desktop. There's even more that I haven't mentioned. Now this? It seems like they just don't give a shit anymore, at least not in the consumer space. That's what they get for being number one.
