Apr 18th 2006 1:48PM Interesting - pie in the sky and all; the comments have been good too, so far: True, james 42, IT depts have been the gateway to get into a company, but at the same time many companies are still unhappy with them, so there's definitely an opportunity to "talk directly to the man", i.e. the CEO, without having to go through his geeks; which is particularly interesting if you have a brand like Google with which he or she already interacts...

It would be even more attractive to them if Google gave CEOs and MDs what most IT vendors fail to deliver: clear, tangible business benefits (not tech specifications), with "enterprise-grade" stability (following Andre de Cavaignac) and the ease of toys... Surely not a quick and dirty company blog, but a way to get things done more efficiently. Much easier said than done, but ther'e a lot of money in there.

Switching art students to Linux (Download Squad)

Mar 24th 2006 12:52PM I found Leete's move courageous and the alternative tools very interesting; it does seem to be counterproductive to get a Mac and then install Linux on it - I'd certainly do it only to see Macheads turn red as they suffocate; if you already have a few Macs why not give it a try? Particularly if you don't want to commit piracy.

What I find much more attractive is getting brand new computers with no OS and then installing Linux and all these applications on them: it's way cheaper for your average would be web designer (again, taking into consideration the cost of Photoshop, Illustrator etc etc) and it would unleash a lot of creativity that way...

Sep 13th 2005 5:46PM Ugly Office Interface? Who cares? Get OpenOffice, it's waaaaay uglier but it works (on Windows based PCs, anyway; it's kinda shaky on OS X, but still, nice effort by the developer team).
