Tesla announces the Model S: a $60k, all-electric, five passenger sports sedan (Engadget)

Do you understand the concept of a "capitalist economy"? Corporations will do whatever makes the best financial sense for the corporation. If outsourcing will save them money, why wouldn't they do it? Until the US Government starts giving them a tax break, or some other form of relief, for *not* outsourcing, expect the trend to continue.
I'm sorry that you and your IT department family will all be running your own lemonade stands at some point in the near future, but maybe you should have thought about that when you were skipping Economics class (and who knows what else) to huff freon out behind the Gymnasium.

Ask Engadget: Pentax K10D, Nikon D80 or what? (Engadget)
Sep 7th 2007 2:31AM First off, I would highly recommend the D80 - it's a great camera, as many others have stated.
That said, the D80 on a $1,000 budget is only going to piss you off. Why? Because you're really only going to be able to afford the kit lens and not much else for that much money.
The kit lens isn't *bad*, but it doesn't have VR, which means you're either going to be shooting outside during bright daylight hours, or you're going to be lugging a tripod around everywhere you go. That might sound OK to you now, but it will get old pretty fast.
As for inexpensive lenses, there are two popular options: the 50mm 1.8f, and the 55-200mm VR. Those are both pretty decent lenses, but you'll be stuck with the kit lens for anything wide angle (i.e., slow-ish lens with no VR).
You would be putting yourself in the best & most comfortable situation if you could swing a D80 + 18-200mm VR lens. Together, you're looking at ~$1,500 or $1,600 (I think). That lens isn't perfect, but for learning how to shoot (technically, composition, post-processing, etc), there aren't too many better choices for the money.
Hope that helps. Cheers.

The hundred gadget giveaway: round 1 (Engadget)
Sep 4th 2007 1:23AM Interesting. It would appear that Engadget is trying to figure out how many unique users visit their site during certain windows throughout the day. By announcing & ending the contest within a 6 hour window, they effectively isolate those 6 hours from other times of the day.
Unfortunately, subsequent results from contests immediately following this one could be skewed, due to increased traffic from readers who normally only visit during this initial 6 hour window (but come back just to enter the next contest).
..or maybe it's just a contest. :)

Jun 13th 2007 3:04AM Deja vu. Seems like very single year we hear the same thing.. "we've totally redesigned the underlying physics engine to deliver a more realistic experience". Then, there will also be some stupid, useless new feature like "First Glance Advantage" that will never get used by anybody, until someone figures out a way to exploit it, at which time it will be used by everybody, all the time. The AI will still cheat at-will, and online play will be plagued by some hack that gets discovered the day after the release. Just Wait and see...
What? Me, cynical? Nahh, just realistic. I've been playing the EA FIFA since 2003. Every year I've been disappointed to the point that I don't even bother buying the games anymore.
