Om Malik brings Calacanis and Rose together for a rare photo-op (Download Squad)

Jul 30th 2007 8:17PM This isn't necessarily directed at this post, but at DLS in general.

DLS used to be the place I came for the filtered - very best of - version of the day's tech news & ... downloads! I don't remember the alst time I saw something to download, and the 5-10 posts per day have become 20-40, regurgitating the same blah stories that hit digg, etc. It's just my opinion, but bring back the downloads, bring back the concentrated quality.

Online music stores tie up your money, Why? (Download Squad)

Mar 8th 2007 11:49AM This is a common practice alot of places. One I can think of immediately is gas pumps. There was a big to do awhile back about how it locks ~$40-$50 just for swiping the card as credit. (debit doesn't do this). Same thing used to happen when you had the guy at the gas station run the card manually. It's not a technology thing, or an evil company thing, it's a credit card thing. One way to fix it might be to purchase gift cards, then use those to purchase the music.

Ask Download Squad: What media player(s) do you use? (Download Squad)

Dec 1st 2005 3:35PM Winamp for music - mp3's only For videos - Windows Media player - the classic version "mplayer2.exe" i have so many codecs on my computer it can't play uncompressed video - so i use quicktime. A strong selling (err, usage) point for any software I use is a small footprint. 700mhz & 384mb sdram makes it almost necessary. itunes is too cumbersome for my system.
