Nov 7th 2006 9:12PM To the second comment - there are many home theater players that will play full 1080i HD in DivX or Mpeg native formats. In addition, many home theater PC software tools playback HD with 5.1 audio, including tools from Nvidia (PureVideo), the free VLC player, and many HDTV players (like www.DVico.com etc). Also, there are many complete packages like MythTV or KnoppMyth that are more or less plug and play - google those for more. For HD ready home theater hardware, check out things like Hannibal ( http://tvease.net/product_info.php?products_id=46 ) or the XBOX 360, with it's latest upgrade.

Jun 11th 2006 3:23AM Re: FCP, Avid, and Vegas -- We might see a real third contender in Vegas if Sony made Vegas cross-platform (instead of only Windows based). Vegas is amazing for 5.1 surround editing, HD workflow, and ease of use. However, since many in the pro field are Mac users, Vegas has limited reach.
