Hot Stat: Today's Homes Burn Faster Than Ever (AOL Real Estate)

Nov 9th 2011 6:08PM Having had 2 family members and 3 friends set their houses on fire with candles, I refrain from any open flames except for the gas stove. It amazes me to see candles burning on low tables and shelves with dogs and small children around. If this isn't asking for trouble, I don't know what is. We had a house 3 blocks away burn to the ground and kill 2 children. The cause was candles left burning unattended.

Choosing the Best Dog Food - 8 Things You Should Know (Pawnation OLD)

Apr 3rd 2011 1:44PM Note to kflower:
I spoke with a vet at the U of IL small animal hospital about the Frontline flea & tick product. She told me that the topical solution is not systemic. It stays in the hair and hair follicle and does not get into a dog's bloodstream. She reassured me that it is perfectly safe. I have always been afraid to use it and have used flea collars for years. The vet told me that the flea collars are more toxic than the Frontline. She also said to stay away from the cheap topical products sold at the discount stores. They work differently and can be bad for your dog. This is where I got the idea that the topicals were unsafe. There have been recalls on the cheap brands because they have killed pets.
Also, please check where your dog food and treats are made. I will never again buy any food that is made in China. An awful lot of treats are made there. China killed and sickened our dogs and cats, poisoned and killed their own babies, poisoned our children with lead paint, how can anyone ever trust their products again? Our last dog, Hayley, was poisoned with Chinese dog food and was never the same. It injured her kidneys and she went downhill from it. If you love your dog, read the labels!

Women Under 30 Losing 'Lady Skills' Like Cooking and Cleaning (MyDaily)

Feb 8th 2011 11:27AM I have been married for 39 years and am in my late fifties. I have done all of the "lady skills" and can do them practically with my eyes closed. Therein lies the problem. Why is it my "job" to always do the laundry and the cooking and the cleaning and the mending and the vaccuuming. Sure, I now have the time since I lost my job, but I'm sick of it. If I had the money, I would hire someone else to do it. When my mom turned about 75 and my dad was gone, she decided that she was done with cooking. She spent her whole life cooking for a family of seven and I can really understand her desire to never do it again. I do still enjoy cooking, but then I have to clean up.

The Rich are Happy but Not Unscathed (AOL Jobs)

Feb 2nd 2011 3:21PM My heart bleeds for these poor people. Please just get back to me when they can't afford to feed and clothe their children, not when they have to put off trading their Lexus for a new one this year.

2010 Ford Fusion safety investigation opened by NHTSA (Autoblog)

Jan 26th 2011 11:14PM I see mostly Dodges being towed. I've owned Fords my whole life and the only time I've been towed was after an accident. On the other hand, the one new Buick I had was towed for mechanical problems several times in the first 2 years.

In Defense of Tinsel (Shelterpop)

Dec 20th 2010 10:43AM We have had artificial trees for 38 years and have always used tinsel. It's not that big of a deal to take it off. No tree of mine would be complete without the tinsel. Putting up the Christmas tree every year is one of my favorite things because of the special ornaments and memories. We buy a Christmas ornament every year where ever we are on vacation. So our tree reminds us of such good times. It's better than getting a trinket that just has to be dusted each week. When putting up our tree I remember good times from my vacations and my childhood like decorating the trees with my four brothers who most of the time were pains in my you-know-what. I always placed my tinsel strategically while my brothers loved to just throw a clump at the tree.

Could Santa Sue Macy's? Fired John Toomey Speaks Out (AOL Jobs)

Dec 8th 2010 9:36AM They have a commercial on tv about a Santa using a " Male enhancing pill" and what the above Santa said was offensive? Give me a break.

Start Reading For Banned Books Week (AOL Hot Searches)

Sep 27th 2010 7:50PM I am 58 years old and absolutely love the Harry Potter books and have read the whole series many times. I am excited by the idea that children were reading these books. Anything that introduces a child to the love of books is a good thing. And anyone who wants to ban those books is not intelligent enough to understand this. Think about it, children were waiting in lines to get these books as soon as they were released. SO THEY COULD READ THEM!!!
I am also a great fan of "To Kill a Mockingbird".
I agree with the person above who said that no book should be banned. If you don't like it, don't read it.
But how on earth can you know if a book is objectionable unless you have actually read it?

Don't Make These Foreign Currency Mistakes (AOL Travel News)

Sep 22nd 2010 10:05PM I have used traveler's checks, prepaid debit cards and credit cards. Using the credit card is by far the best way. Many places won't take traveler's checks any more because of counterfeiting and if the bank misplaces a check when you buy them, you're screwed. I know, it happened to me. The prepaid debit card was such a pain, I quit using it and used my credit card. When I got home, I cashed in the debit card and used it to pay off the credit card. We just came back from a vacation and we had a limited amount of cash and our credit cards. We get great cash rebates on the card, so, as long as you pay it off each month, you are money ahead.

Designer Milk: The New "It" Food (Slashfood)

Sep 22nd 2010 9:30PM I am 58 years old and love milk. My husband and I go through about 2-3 gallons per week. We do drink 1% milk now, but I believe there is nothing like a good, cold glass of milk. Whenever we eat out, which is admittedly infrequently, I always order a large glass of milk with my meal. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Sorry, got to go. I'm really thirsty.
