Oct 12th 2007 3:38PM Wow. And I thought the Pogs fad died a long time ago.
InfraRecorder: Open source CD/DVD burner (Download Squad)
Oct 2nd 2007 2:03PM The ability to create disc copies using a temporary disc image alone makes this a better option than CDBurnerXP. I used CDBXP whenever I had to create a disk, but always got stymied when I had to copy one. Not anymore!
First US GPL lawsuit settled out of court (Download Squad)
Sep 25th 2007 11:51AM "...the copyright Monsoon Multimedia violated was technology protected by the General Public License or GNL."
Isn't that GPL?
Find inspiration from the Idea Generator - Time Waster (Download Squad)
Aug 15th 2007 7:34PM The only thing that could make this better is if it were embeddable. My blog CRAVES automatic vibrating food and luxurious rural clothing!
Reformed spammer says he made up to $15,000 per week (Download Squad)
Jul 20th 2007 6:05PM I can understand that telling people that you send spam for a living might be a bit uncomfortable, but that was his own fault. As for feeling awkward about having piles of cash all over his apartment? Yeah, also his fault.
The shortcut to locking your Windows desktop (Download Squad)
Jun 26th 2007 1:11PM Yeah, yeah, yeah. Win+L. We get it. And for all us keyboard fanatics/mouse haters, Win+L works great. But there are those times when a clickable shortcut does just the trick.
I keep my shortcut in the Quick Launch toolbar so that I don't have to minimize everything to get to the Desktop. The shortcut also comes in handy when I'm using VNC to remotely connect to my PC so I can lock it when I'm done (Win+L typically locks the workstation I'm at, not the one I'm connected to).
CE-Oh no he didn't, part XXXV: NBC sez piracy hurts 'corn growers' (Engadget)
Jun 23rd 2007 12:22PM Exactly. I ALWAYS eat popcorn when I watch movies at home. But when I actually go to the theater, it's a rarity for me to get popcorn because it's so dadgummed expensive.
Is asking nicely the key to stopping piracy? (Download Squad)
Jun 18th 2007 7:30PM It's doubtful that "pretty please" would have curtailed piracy altogether, but it definitely would have done a lot the general feeling of hatred and loathing from the public toward the RIAA. Civility is always a better PR move than suing children, non-computer users, the elderly, and the deceased.
Logitec intros digital recorder for consumer telephones (Engadget)
Jun 13th 2007 2:38PM This is Logitec, not the Logitech we're more familiar with. Judd's right: it's a wonder that Logitech hasn't sued the pants off this little operation.
Fake name keeping you anonymous online? Guess again. (Download Squad)
May 24th 2007 7:27PM Sure, it may be pernicious, but if Microsoft or Google don't do it, then somebody else will, and you can bet the spammers and data miners will be holding first class tickets on this train.
The practices and measures employed by internet users to remain secure have been constantly evolving as long as the internet has been around. I sure hope Ross Anderson isn't implying that the current methods of staying safe online are the best they'll ever be.
