The Light and How to Swing It: The new tanking gear of patch 4.3 (WoW)

Dec 10th 2011 4:15PM This.

I wish the term "block cap" would just go away already, as it is very misleading. You need 102.4% total coverage from dodge, parry and block. Mastery gives the block, and in a good amount, which is one of the reasons that this stat is so attractive.

DO NOT be afraid to take up some dps-ish pieces. Especially on the weapon. I don't know why blizzard feels the need to make high end tanking weapons so scarce, but if you see a nice 1-hander with expertise/hit on it...roll for it

Pay attention to set bonuses. Many of us paladins found that our 4 piece t12 was useless....if you're already at 102.4%....what good is extra that doesn't get used? So we took the two piece set an picked up stronger-stat off pieces. T13 4pc is pretty legit tho...and almost a requirement for Madness and certainly many heroic encounters.

Remember protadins. You aren't just picking up adds and bosses- you are the meat shield for your group!

Breakfast Topic: What was your most memorable noob moment? (WoW)

Dec 2nd 2011 1:06PM I should add...

I was in Org for the first time, outside the Hall of Legends. Back then, it was instanced. Having never before seen an instance I saw the swirly and asked a guy nearby what was in there. Determining that big baddies were there, I said "Oh, I would probably get killed in there, huh?" and left.

I'm quite certain that guy is *still* laughing at me, 5 years later.

Dec 2nd 2011 12:55PM My first toon, I tossed a few coin into the stable master. On my priest.
Also for the longest time I thought the only way to enter an instance was to jump into it..

Shifting Perspectives: Guide to patch 4.2 for bear and tree druids (WoW)

Jun 22nd 2011 12:35AM I've hit 16k as bear on heroic chogall 10 man. That's better than some actual dps I've seen. I'm ok with the nerf. What I do NOT want to see happen is our threat take a beating Maybe if we could get another taunt? Or just make us not so damn reliable on our weapon and then only give us one that we have fight hunters for..... Sorry, I don't mean to qq here I'm just concerned that Blizz never has quite a clear picture on what it wants bears to be able to do and where to take us.

Speak wisdom, o Allison, make the devs hear! :-)

Battle.net authenticator process updated with smarter log-in detection (WoW)

Jun 16th 2011 7:28PM They didn't say they were doing it by ip address. It could be MAc address, router traces, stack signatures, geolocation or any combination of. Im sure Blizz has already thought about college campuses and the like so they may use system info and a combination of all of the above to generate unique keys for systems.

Hackable? Everything is. Something to worry about? I trust the Blizzard folks to be better developers and know their systems better than I do.

Shifting Perspectives: Why the tank Q&A sucked (WoW)

Jun 14th 2011 4:17PM Currently 8/12 heroic on both my prot pally and my bear. Bear tanks are clearly weaker. The line comparing rebirth and Inervate to Divine Guardian...well...it meshes me wonder how many of the devs actually tank their own encounters as bear. No bubble to drop stacks. No healing out of form. No real raid boost. Only one reliable taunt/high threat gen ability. I love my bear and my pally but now that paw is the same as kings, other raiders don't love me nearly as much. I think devs should spend more time playing the roles, less time seeing what the wow population is doing.

This article gets +3 paws (and leaves me rage starved)

Patch 4.2 PTR notes for May 13 (WoW)

May 14th 2011 11:06AM My ilvl 346 spriest can do 14k on multi target boss fights (like the dazzling dragons), yet I know 354 mages and rogues that struggle to do that. Why? Because I can multi dot like a mofo. Reducing my dot damage will be a significant loss to my dps which absolutely
Sucks, but I've never felt like we should be above pure dps classes. Hybrid tax nerf Inc

Shifting Perspectives: Tanks, bribes, and player behavior, part 2 (WoW)

Apr 20th 2011 1:28PM obstreperous (adj) - noisily and stubbornly defiant; "obstreperous boys"

Because yeah. Not in the average WoW player's vernacular.

Breakfast Topic: Do you collect anything in WoW? (WoW)

Apr 4th 2011 11:59AM Shields. I used to collect every one I could get my hands on, now I only collect the ones unique by design. My bank

Ghostcrawler returns to the conversation, talks about hit and expertise on tanking gear (WoW)

Mar 24th 2011 12:10PM It sounds to me like the devs are trying to tweak several things with one or two stat stones.

Increased value of expertise and hit means several things: plate gear is more homogenized and dps pieces are more attractive-- this potentially increases loot availability. It also means that tank damage should increase, resulting in slightly more manageable fights.

Blizz has done a great job of cleaning things up. Mastery is definitely cooler than defense and spec-specific bonuses are fun. I don't like the suggestion of making it adjust how much of the hit you block----we already had block value and it went away; I think we're better for it.

From my perspective (pally and Druid tanks), stat weights and tank focus change greatly based on what tier of content you're currently in. For heroics you care about threat and stamina. For normal raids you watch mitigation/avoidance and stam. For heroic raids you balance all of it with some magic resist tossed in. I think tanking is more fun now than it ever was, regardless of tier and I'd love to see Blizz focus more on our roles in encounters (positioning, things to do, etc) than on out-of-
combat stat priorities.

Keep up the great work, Blizz and don't break us---tanking is fun partly because we don't juggle 5 to 7 stat numbers any more
